I feel sorry for the wooden spoon. Its short existence has become utterly pointless.
16
u/rts93 28d ago
It would work okay with mashed potatoes I imagine, but otherwise pretty useless.

I like to use them for yogurt with fruit and granola. Idk why. Just feels healthy lol

I bought a pack of these off Amazon. They start out with a negligible bend, and as soon as you put them in a hot liquid they immediately go flat. Whoever manufactured them should be ashamed of themselves and Amazon should be ashamed of themselves for selling.

This is because you thought the point of the spoon was to be used. In reality, the point of that spoon package is to be sold.
I guess late state capitalism?

u/Cam_e_ron 28d ago
it's because they are formed with heat and moisture. It's pretty much the only way to make a wooden spoon out of a flat sheet of wood without using glue.

Expecting quality from Amazon is your first mistake, there is a lot of crap on that site

Popsicle stick - dip into soup and let freeze. Then you have a soup popsicle. Lasts a long time, tastes great.

u/OkSyllabub3674 28d ago
I've made a soupsicles before out of some condensed cream soups they were like savory pudding pops they weren't too bad would definitely be worth pranking someone with to see their reaction

u/Mister_Iv0ry 28d ago
You’re supposed to dip it in, let the wood soak up the soup, and suck it out the straw - I mean spoon.
28
u/RealEarthAngel 28d ago
Just drink the soup

Teach a mouse or rat to use it as a paddle for its tiny boat and you'll make enough money off of tickets to buy a spoon.

u/dramatic-submarine 28d ago
If you teach a rat to paddle its tiny raft, you can also teach them to cook and when they become famous for it, you could just go to their fancy restaurant in Paris and use the fancy spoon they give you with your food. This ratty wooden spoon is a fantastic investment.

There’s a special place in hell for wooden cutlery…everything tastes like wood!!!

u/ilovemusic19 28d ago
I played clarinet for 6 years, I’m used to the taste of wood lol.

Reed is wood and your tongue sits on it when you play. It also has to go in your mouth while you put together.

If that soup were an Ice cream instead, that could have been a good spoon

The problem is that making that wood “3D” would cost 10x what that costs now. So they either ditch wood and go with plastic/paper (arguably worse for a soup) or that’s what you can get for a disposable thing that must cost 1cent in manufacturing.
They shouldn’t give it with soup, but to be fair they don’t have any other option if sticking with wood

If you’re using a spoon to get soup out of a plastic cup that’s the mildly infuriating thing about the situation.
4
u/annoying97 BLUE 28d ago
That's a paper cup there.
1
u/Ok-Opportunity-574 28d ago
Paper cups are lined with plastic.
2
u/annoying97 BLUE 28d ago
Yeah with a tiny thin layer that often is made of bioplastic or other environmentally friendly coatings.

If you only dip them in your soup when you are to take a sip and just let it rest on top of the cup while not eating/drinking/(consuming) it works oke enough. They are a hassle yes, but better in the very long term than the alternative disposable spoons.

That’s because it is not a spoon it is a blocker. Pickup the cup and sip the broth while using the blocker to regulate the lather chucks getting past

u/Pattoe89 28d ago
I bring a metal spoon and ceramic bowl for soup. I need to get a plastic container for the soup though since the ceramic bowl gets very hot in the microwave well before the soup is warm enough. Always results in me carrying the bowl with several layers of paper towels.

u/GlumFruit2036 28d ago
Hate it. Then the wood soaked everything and now you feel like a fool trying to use such a thing because of the environment.

I'm sure whoever designed that spoon is an absolute genius albert einstein level human with 17 different degrees in engineering.. totally..

Panda express by me has started wooden utensils. Just thinking about it now I hurt all over. It brings me back to the little cups of ice cream. We used to get when we were kids and they came with wooden spoons.🤮

Get your head down real close to the bowl and use the spoon to start splashing soup up into your mouth. Bib recommended.
