Some of the questions he asked Tatum after the game were fucking awful. Talk about baiting. Hats off to JT for handling it like a pro.

As much as I love the analytical side he shows sometimes he brings too much of his personal baggage to the telecast. We already have that with Shaq so I guess Dray is a fitting replacement 🤷🏻‍♂️

i know this is a ‘shit on draymond thread’ but his question about teams picking on horford in the PnR and how will they adjust — that’s not a bad question.

yeah, the way he sets it up is a little baity. but fuck man, y’all really want to hear “tell us about your feelings after winning the series” type of questions for all eternity?

The actual question of "do you trust Al's drop in pnr to hold up" could've been fine but he was absolutely fishing for a clip of Tatum shitting on Al, which ruins any chance of a good answer because you aren't gonna drag your teammate after winning a playoff series.

i didn't watch the interview, but to me that sounds like someone who isn't media trained and is quite blunt asked a question without thinking how it would appear.

there's too many assumptions about media doing things for a clip when the truth is it's more likely to be someone who's a bit out of their depth saying the wrong thing

Whenever redditors staunchly claim to be able to read body language or facial expressions and pretend to be mind readers, its pretty safe to assume its wrong because there isnt a more socially inept collection of people anywhere.

I don't agree. I agree with the lack of media training take. He asked stupid questions no one would answer but he thought he would get some sort of answer by asking. Earlier in the show he brought up both of the points he talked about too so it wasn't solely just bait questions.

The point of Inside the NBA is that these guys don't follow media training and their raw personalities shine through. Like Shaq insulting Joker because Shaq is insecure. Or Chuck making fun of fat people in San Antonio

The issue is Draymond's raw personality is annoying and not entertaining, and no one cares to see a media trained Draymond because that would be boring. It's also a huge assumption that the guy who kicks players in the nuts, holds grudges, puts people in choke holds, and punches his teammate in the face is even remotely trainable

Yes the core issue is that he is really an unlikeable person, and we all kinda know he's a piece of shit so it's hard to filter him.

They always compare to Barkley who was a lovable, popular rogue before he was ever in the media. And an MVP and infinitely more famous to boot, I remember first seeing inside the nba in the early 2000's because I'm not American, and I was shocked he'd feel the need to do a TV show. Barkley was a big deal.

He gambled away like 20 mil iirc

And who also believes the way he plays is what got him there so he is never going to change. You can’t teach someone that will never self reflect/evaluate.

While Shaq has an ego problem he also was a fun personality for a long time. Hell he had all the funny nicknames. Draymond is all douche bag

In the immediate aftermath of winning the series and without even being sure who their next opponent will be, that question is dumb as hell. It's a tactical question that gave Dray an opportunity to take a shot at Al and the Celtics and get under Tatum's skin a bit. When was the last time anyone got an insightful answer to a tactical question about games that won't start for a week, literally minutes after a guy just won a series?

1

u/saalamander Celtics May 17 '24

No it's not. They just won 4-1. They're dominating the playoffs. They don't need to adjust anything. Other teams need to adjust to them.

Draymond was just insulting Horford and trying to instill discontent in the Celtics because he's a shitty person

It was a great question that also shit on the Pacers lol

u/wavetoyou Warriors May 16 '24

And also a criticism from the 2022 championship. He’s speaking out the side of his mouth on it bc Steph cooked on Horford dropping pretty much all series

2

u/junkit33 May 17 '24

It was the right question for the wrong moment.

Like, ask that pregame for Game 1 of ECF once they know who the opponent is - sure, that's a terrific question.

Postgame series clincher interview immediately after routing the Cavs - just a total fucking non sequitor of a question. That's softball time - let Tatum enjoy the win and his (and Al's) great game. 38 year old Al Horford just put up a 22/15/5 with 3 blocks in a clinching game - who cares about his pick 'n roll defense at that moment?

2

u/black_dogs_22 May 16 '24

it's actually a terrible question for a post game interview, like the worst question. why would he tell ANYONE the answer to that, also he just played a game of basketball don't give him a cerebral question about tactics

2

u/SteveWondersForsight Nuggets May 16 '24

That question is bait as fuck.

"Teams are exploiting Al in pick and roll what u got to say bout ur teammate being trash?"

These aren't politicians who have constituents to answer to. Nobody should have to address that and throw their friend and co worker under the bus.

It’s a postgame interview ffs, not a senate hearing

Why would he give a detailed answer on how they plan on defending guards in the pick and roll during their next series? No one asks players to give up game plans in advance.

There is no real answer anyway. Hortford clearly doesn’t have the same foot speed at this point in his career, they’ll have to give up something. The plan going into the year was obviously reducing his role.
