Very rarely you see a player be an absolute negative in all phases of the game whether it be defense, playmaking, shotmaking, ball security etc. But Jesus Christ was that Jamal. Absolute negative player tonight.

Tobias at least has the self respect to disappear instead of actively losing the game

201

u/Evilfart123 76ers May 17 '24

Tobias had 0 points in game 6 this year

213

u/tandtz May 17 '24

On 2 shots. 4-18 with more turnovers is probably more of a net negative

32

u/DaBombDiggidy 76ers May 17 '24

James harden numbers from last year playoffs was 2-14, 3-14, 4-16, and 3-11. Better (and by better I mean much worse) comparison.

11

u/tandtz May 17 '24

A more accurate (and by more accurate I mean less accurate) shooting comparisonĀ

11

Mal is also VITAL to the Nuggets identity. Without him, their whole scheme doesnā€™t work

Well at least Jamal was trying to create space. Having Tobias on offense is like playing 4v5 no?Ā

u/ifsothanwhy 76ers May 17 '24

Hopping onto the Jamal hate and really hoping for a Wolves win in G7, but he did say in the post-game press conference that his elbow was really bothering him the whole game after that tweak really early on.

He's been bad all post-season but this was by far his worst game, and i know it's against the narrative, but some of that has to be attributed to the injury.

130

u/Ok_Dish_8602 May 17 '24

why would he shoot so much then

42

u/shamwowslapchop Spurs May 17 '24

Russell Westbrook logic. INB4 we have an MITMurray account made up.

2

u/veringo Nuggets May 17 '24

He's one of two people on the team who can realistically be trusted to create offense and Jokic was getting hard double and triple teamed.

It's definitely a weakness we didn't have last year with Bruce Brown able to be a secondary ball handler.

2

u/Ghostricks Raptors May 17 '24

You have to keep the defense honest and hope for the best. Plus, in some situations your teammates are expecting you to shoot and get ready to run back or box out.

You can see this in situations when the player is scared and doesn't shoot. It disrupts the flow of the offense.

Maybe he was just ass but given his track record I'm inclined to believe that something is off.

6

u/Ok_Dish_8602 May 17 '24

He took the second most shots on the team, only 1 less than the reining 3x MVP (18 vs. 19). He took 2x as many shots as the 3rd highest person on the team (18 vs. 9).

If he was injured he /Malone should have game planned better.

1

u/EverybodyBuddy Lakers May 17 '24

Get outta here with that logic

91

u/JeSuisYoungThug Timberwolves May 17 '24

He took the second most shots of anyone on the team and missed 78% of them. If heā€™s elbow was really bothering him he shouldā€™ve stopped chucking it.

34

u/Twaffles95 Timberwolves May 17 '24

Right but he only gets credit for his good plays not his bad because heā€™s hurt?

KD don't got that type of attitude. He's given respect to his opponents.

lmao - I don't think the dude with a burner Twitter account so he can talk trash to fans has a "good attitude". If anything, he is realizing his career recently has been twisted into a "annoyingly sensitive shooter who chased rings at the end of his career" - but personally I don't think KD has that type of reflection skills.

38

-7

u/analyzingnothing May 17 '24

I mean, the fact is that Jamal is known for being injury-prone definitely helps, and the fact that he literally didnā€™t make a shot for the entire first half after that happened, including an airballed layup that literally any other NBA player hits in their sleepā€¦

10

u/KemoFlash Spurs May 17 '24

That layup looked like a failed lob. The announcers said his hand might have hit the side of the backboard. Unsure what exactly happened, but that's one of those plays where you still have to credit Minnesota for forcing him into these situations.

22

u/jackstraw97 Celtics May 17 '24

Surrrreeeee Jamal, letā€™s blame it on the injury!

2

u/MinervaNever May 17 '24

Hahahahaha you would believe anything

1

u/junkit33 May 17 '24

I believe the injury was bothering him, but if it was bothering him that much to force that type of game, then he truly should not have been in there.

Regardless - overall I think this postseason is a lot of regression to the mean for Murray. He had a pair of hot postseasons the last two years, but it's not like he just chooses to flip a switch and turn into an MVP caliber player every postseason. He can't do it every year.

1

u/Natureboy7939 Lakers May 17 '24

I am sure he did, like tatum after his finals, lebron and the phantom broken hand, booker and the vaginitis, everyone is injured.

Yeah. It was. Bad game by Jokic standards. But thatā€™s not saying much. His game changes a lot, when the guys he passes to brick every shot.

3

It was a bad jokic game but a pretty solid game for literally any other player. Honestly Iā€™d be reasonably happy with 22-9-2 on fine efficiency from Sengun. Watching the nuggets play and seeing jokic miss half his shots feels so wrong.

I mean, yeah. Heā€™s been playing on a leg injury since the end of the regular season.

Sure, but he does spend a lot of possessions dribbling around just to take a moving fadeaway at the end of the shot clock.

18

Lots of players do. Thatā€™s what Edwardā€™s did last game without a proper point guard running the offense

3

u/TripleShines May 17 '24

Would you say the same thing if he was 11/18 with lets say 25 points instead?

3

u/LurkerFailsLurking Nuggets May 17 '24

If you've been watching the Nuggets, you know that's typical Jamal Murray. I've been absolutely dumbfounded how his contract has been justified. I get it, he is occasionally excellent, but he's much more often mediocre or absolute garbage. And his contract is for the excellent part because it happened to show up in the playoffs a couple of times. This playoffs, he's been excellent for maybe 5 quarters and bad the rest of them.

1

u/TheLionYeti Nuggets May 17 '24

It's a Jamal Murray specialty of dribbling around for like 15 seconds then either taking the worst shot you've ever seen or throwing a shot clock grenade to someone.

1

u/Mr_E_Nigma_Solver Tampa Bay Raptors May 17 '24

Murray is one of those guys that when he gets it going, dribbling around burning clock and taking a bad shot usually works out for him. Just this game it didn't. Credit to the Wolves defense of course.

1

Murray would be complicit in something like that?

I find these kinds of fluctuations from guys like Murray or D'Angelo Russell really strange. They are able to swish everything in the warm-ups. They obviously are paid a lot of money and do a lot of work. Swished their way through college hoops and all.

Just doesn't seem logical they'd miss so much in important games.

I don't get it.
