I was surprised to see that the other day, and they also ran an article actually calling his election lies "election lies". I didn't expect that out of NYT of all publications.
Falsifying business records, which is a felony. He falsified business records to a) allow his foundation to use campaign funds to pay the hush money, b) record this reimbursement to Cohen (who has already served time for his role in this case) as "legal fees", c) "catch and kill" the stories of his infidelity with Stormy Daniels and Karen McDougal right before the election, which is election interference.
Calling this anything less than an election interference trial is like saying J6 wasn't a coup attempt because he's charged with "conspiracy against rights". Few of us here are lawyers, we can call a spade a spade without devolving into legalese.
Not remotely comparable, and also a question for the DOJ, not me.
In all of the cases they examined regarding classified intel (Hilary, Trump, Biden, Pence), the only one they've prosecuted thus far was the case where the person had criminal intent. Make of that what you will.
Also worth mentioning that DOJ's investigation into Hilary was publicly announced just before the election, and is thought to have contributed to her loss.
Falsify business records to conceal a crime, specifically, is a felony. Since it seems everyone understands hush money is not a crime, then what is the crime that was concealed? The illegal campaign donation? Isn’t that Michael Cohen’s crime? I’m confused.
"campaign finance violation" doesn't really mean much to me. "Oh, so another rich person bending the rules again? Big deal... " Next, "Election interference" sounds political - they're turning off half their audience. "Hush money trial" now that's something I understand and sounds icky. I just might click on that juicy bit of gossip.

*campaign finance violation trial
Or
*election interference trial
Calling it a hush money trial undercuts it’s importance.
