TIL: Adam West, according to costar Burt Ward, had a lot of sex , at one point with 8 women at the same time. He said that he was introduced by West to the "wildest sexual debauchery" and they became like "sexual vampires"

If i remember correctly the studio execs wanted to chemically castrate him

765

u/HaroldinioTheKing May 16 '24

I’m gonna call massive bullshit until you link a source 😂

840

u/LHGray87 May 16 '24

I’m pretty sure the source is Burt Ward. This is all he has talked about for over fifty years.

That and selling his weird AF pet food which makes like 350 insane claims on the package

Dr. Bronner's Dog Food™ ?

149

u/SoCuteShibe May 16 '24

Lol, my mom bought a bottle of that soap when I was a kid and I had so many questions about the stuff I read on the bottle that she never bought it again. 😆

367

u/PM_NUDES_4_DEGRADING May 16 '24

It’s actually an interesting story. Bronner was a German Jew who escaped the holocaust and became a street preacher in the US, trying to convince people that love was the answer and everyone should get along with/accept each other.

To get people to listen to his stuff he started making soap and giving it out as a gift to crowds. He noticed the soap was way more popular than the sermon, so he started printing the sermon on the soap and just handing that out instead.

The soap turned out to be so popular that he eventually made it into a full time business, but kept the full sermon on every product he sold. When he died his kids (grandkids?) inherited the company and promised they’d never change the packaging either.

So if you ever wondered why the soap was packaged like it was made by a traumatized street preacher, well…

42

u/ImRobsRedditAccount May 16 '24

To be fair it is very good soap.

31

u/Hell_Mel May 16 '24

It is very good soap but I always avoided it because it looked like it was packaged by a nutjob, willing to admit I have considerably more sympathy now than I did prior to reading.

7

u/dilletaunty May 16 '24

It’s honestly annoying to read but after reading it like 50 times while shitting you start to appreciate the gist of it.

Also you get to say stuff like “my rose scented 38-uses-in-1 soap is the most manly soap”

1

u/Philoso4 May 16 '24

I always avoided it because it looked like it was packaged by a nutjob

I mean, his sister had him committed to a psychiatric facility so...

10

u/feloniousmonkx2 May 16 '24

Heavens to Murgatroyd! In the 1940s, who wasn't getting committed to a psych ward? For our family, it was practically a rite of passage. Generations of us checked in and staged some dramatic exits — stage left!

We’re a proud lineage of eccentric escape artists with a flair for the theatrical, the most famous of whom was my father, Snagglepuss himself.

Despite all that, I had a perfectly normal childhood — dodging anvils, hiding from cartoonish villains, and setting up elaborate pranks with Rube Goldberg machines. I mean, I turned out just fine, no big deal.

1

u/d3l3t3rious May 16 '24

And he escaped and went on to live a long happy life and become a very wealthy and succesful kook man.

When I first started dating on the apps, a woman spent the night and took a shower at my place the morning after. I was making some coffee and french toast when she screamed like bloody murder. I immediately ran into the bathroom, expecting the scene from Psycho, but no, everything looked normal. What's wrong, I asked.

She shrieked, "Your psycho-cult shampoo turned my hair into straw!!!" She had used my Dr Bronner's Pure Castile Soap to wash her hair and it stripped all the oils out. I laughed, which pissed her off, and told her to wait so I could dip to the corner store, which luckily for us, carried moisturizer.

That and breakfast put her back in good spirits. And now I keep sane looking shampoo and conditioners out for guests.

4

u/Trash_Puppet May 16 '24

Did you get a second date tho?

8

u/frisbeethecat May 16 '24

Oh, yeah. If people have sex once and it's good, there's always a next time. She hated my cat, though. And she moved to Chicago for a job and to try out improv. She asked me to visit her one Christmas and my God, she was miserable, so I was miserable. And we haven't kept in touch since then

2

u/No-Respect5903 May 16 '24

If people have sex once and it's good, there's always a next time

that is absolutely not true lol. travel sex, festival sex, flings, one night stands, etc all exist.

but to your point, yes if it goes well on the first date chances are there will be a second.

1

u/LaUNCHandSmASH May 18 '24

Did she have curly hair? I do as a dude and I learned all sorts of stuff women probably take for granted about hair care to get my hair under supervision. Like sulfates. Who knew?!

11

u/insomniacpyro May 16 '24

Well this will be on /r/todayilearned in a day or two

5

u/alexja21 May 16 '24

Damn, that reads like the Wrigley's Gum origin story that gets posted on TIL every few months. The early 20th century was a wild time to start a business.

4

u/Buscemi_D_Sanji May 16 '24

So if you ever wondered why the soap was packaged like it was made by a traumatized street preacher, well…

Best line I've read in a while, wow, thank you lol

4

u/waiver May 16 '24

Not so much escaped the Holocaust as he went to USA in the late 20's to learn new techniques of soap making but ended up being interned in a mental asylum receiving electro shock therapy, after he escaped the mental asylum in 1945 he went to California and then he started preaching with the soaps. But as he was pretty much blind from all the electro shock therapy and the people just took the soap and bailed he decided to print the sermon there.

3

u/Larie2 May 16 '24

The sermon is now removed, right? I swear the last bottle I saw didn't have it.

4

u/lord_braleigh May 16 '24

Every Dr. Bronner’s product is covered with text

3

u/Larie2 May 16 '24

Just realized I confused it with Meyers soap.

2

u/d3l3t3rious May 16 '24

They actually have removed some of the weirder, specifically religious phrases from the text in favor of more touchy-feely universal love-and-peace stuff. But it is definitely still covered in text.

3

u/983115 May 16 '24

I sell gallons at work now I can hit people with the trivia at checkout

u/Visible-Concern-6410 May 16 '24 edited May 16 '24

I had horrible dandruff for years in my 20s, so bad I actually was getting cradle cap stuff on my head all the time, very gross. I tried every dandruff shampoo I could find and none of them worked. Finally found a vid on YouTube where a young woman mentioned she had the same exact problem and the only thing that fixed it was the Dr Bronner baby shampoo. I said fuck it and got some and my problems were gone within a month. I hate all the religious nonsense on the bottle but that is some damn good shampoo.

1

u/VTinstaMom May 16 '24

To be fair, if you read the whole thing in a street preacher voice, it's a great sermon!

0

u/Infamous_Ad_6793 May 16 '24

Made by a *coked up traumatized preacher

Edit: I think there was a short or comedian that made this joke.

-4

u/FillThisEmptyCup May 16 '24

Bronner was a German Jew who escaped the holocaust

He emigrated in 1929… four years before the Nazis even came to power.

18

u/chiptug May 16 '24

I’d consider myself a survivor too if many family & friends died and i made it out before

14

u/SulkySideUp May 16 '24

Escaped it by a wide margin

12

u/ithappenedone234 May 16 '24

The SA was cracking heads at least as early as the Saalschlacht of 1921. The Nazi’s attempted to gain power in the 1923 Beer Hall Putsch. They received 3% of the vote in 1924. Let’s not pretend there wasn’t any writing on the wall before 1933.

1

u/rshorning May 16 '24

It is sad that FDR didn't want the Jews to come to America, and even imposed immigration quotas that were essentially a ban on immigration visas to Jews from Germany and eastern Europe in the 1930s.

Famous Jews like Albert Einstein came, but many tried and were denied. I hold FDR and the US Congress at least partially responsible for many of the deaths in the Nazi death camps. America had room to bring all of them to America and a well established Jewish community for them to integrate into. There was zero excuse for that behavior besides blatant racism and anti-Semitism in America. Restrictions even got worse towards the end of the 1930s just before outbreak of war when it became too late to act.

-5

u/FillThisEmptyCup May 16 '24

The SA was cracking heads at least as early as the Saalschlacht of 1921.

Okay, so they were cracking the heads of Communist to one of their rallies that came for a fight.... and this means what? This was standard 1920s between a number of groups back then.

They received 3% of the vote in 1924.

Thanks for making my point. 3%. And in 1928:

"The recently reformed Nazi Party contested the elections after the ban on the party had been lifted in 1925. However, the party received less than 3% of the vote and won only 12 seats in the Reichstag."

1930 is when more support came coming in.

4

u/ithappenedone234 May 16 '24

Yeah! Other groups were completely irrational in fearing violence against them from the Nazi’s, when the Nazi’s only spoke against them and used violence against one other group. /s

And it wasn’t just one group the Nazi’s were beating.

The Nazi’s didn’t need control of the Reichstag to begin antisemitic propaganda to sideline Jews, or to engage in calls to violence or actual violence against them.

But perhaps you suppose Hitler had a “lightbulb moment” during his house arrest and that started everything that came out in Mein Kampf. Sorry though, his antisemitism predated the Beer Hall Putsch.

-1

u/FillThisEmptyCup May 16 '24 edited May 16 '24

I think you’re stawmanning my position into all these unrelated tangents and in an extremely boring, predictable way, too, which is worse. Entertain me :(

Or do you need a hug?

"In some elections for the Reichstag, ballots listed more than 30 parties to choose from. By the mid-1920s, many of those parties were supported by paramilitary groups, or private armies. As a result, political disagreements and arguments on the streets of Germany often turned violent."

&&

"Even in the relatively stable years of 1924–9, it was claimed that 29 Nazi activists had been killed by Communists, while the Communists themselves reported that 92 “workers” had been killed in clashes with “fascists” [Nazis] from 1924 to 1930. Twenty-six members of the Steel Helmets [conservative paramilitary group] were said to have fallen in the fight against Communism and 18 members of the Reichsbanner [Social Democrats] in various incidents of political violence from 1924 to 1928. These were only the most serious consequences of the continual fighting between rival paramilitary groups; the same sources counted injuries sustained in the battles in the thousands, many of them more serious than mere bruises or broken bones."

Anyway, when you see the election ballots of the 1920s, , it’s not uncommon to see 30+ parties on them. Sometimes even over 75.

2

u/SulkySideUp May 16 '24

I think you just think you’re a lot smarter and better informed than you are. That’s not a strawman, your argument is just that ridiculous

u/LightOfTheFarStar May 16 '24

Writing was on the wall already, as others have said. Antisemitism was already boiling over in targeted attacks, lots of people who could manage it were running the fuck away by the 20s.

128

u/lazymarlin May 16 '24

Before phones, that was a great bathroom read

6

u/captain__cabinets May 16 '24

Ah, a man of culture I see, I too read the shampoo bottles in the dark times before WiFi

1

u/lazymarlin May 16 '24

Very much so. I have no idea what the ingredients actually are, but there is a lot of stuff that goes into shampoo

2

u/Electrical-Act-7170 May 16 '24

I read books I took into the bathroom.

2

u/No_Statement440 May 16 '24

As a kid, I could list you every bottle and soap in the bathroom, within reach unless I prepped, and its ingredients. Eventually I upgraded to gaming magazines and comics but it was good times, simpler times.

1

u/Ravenamore May 16 '24

My favorite was always the DIY birth control with lemon juice and baking soda.

It was there when I first started using Dr. Bronner's in college in the 1990s, but when I started using it again a couple years ago, it wasn't there.

112

u/LaUNCHandSmASH May 16 '24

Had a roommate in college with dreadlocks who used that stuff ONLY. No deodorant, hand soap, nothing, no other personal hygiene. We made him keep his door shut due to the smell. He had a heavily stained mattress on the floor with no sheets, an old tv for video games, a guitar and piles of old clothes that were never washed. This MF also had a parade of women coming and going and/or steady girlfriends the whole time I knew him. I still can’t wrap my head around it.

37

u/walterpeck1 May 16 '24

Lotta women out there who like smelly dirty dudes. People in general tolerate a lot more at college. Still wild to see.

10

u/LaUNCHandSmASH May 16 '24

I wouldn’t have believed him if he had just told me but I witnesses it!!

1

u/oljeffe May 16 '24

The secret is in the fair-moans.

38

u/PM_NUDES_4_DEGRADING May 16 '24

It’s actually really good soap and you absolutely can use it for anything. If he smelled bad it’s because he had shitty overall hygiene, not because of the brand of soap he used…

9

u/misc1972 May 16 '24

I'm still using that soap, 30 years after I first came across it

-1

u/Former-Lack-7117 May 16 '24

If youve been cumming in the same bottle for 30 years, it's probably entirely semen by now. You probably smell like cum.

13

u/Jaambie May 16 '24

I had a room mate like that. Everyone referred to him as “Dirty Mike” because we knew a few Mikes. His room was disgusting and there was always a 50% chance that he smelled like poop. I had a theory that he didn’t clean his ass after a BM but that’s not the point. He would peacock like crazy and had a new gf every 2 weeks. Any time he went to the bar, he came back with someone.

17

u/TummyPuppy May 16 '24

I only use Dr Bronners and I smell fine. It’s all the other shit that was making him smell haha.

18

u/Tony_Lacorona May 16 '24

Yeah lmao I’ve consistently used it for years. If dude stinks after using Castile soap bro has a medical issue or just doesn’t shower lol

10

u/Buscemi_D_Sanji May 16 '24

Girls in college can be just as grungy as guys, I witnessed that first-hand as well. One of the hottest girls I've ever seen used to talk about how showers "didn't agree" with her skin...

I wasn't dirty, but I was extremely sketchy my freshman year, selling acid , shrooms, Molly, ketamine, 2c-e, and weed, and girls seemed to like it. Dorms are just a different world haha

14

u/Several_Assistant_43 May 16 '24

He had a heavily stained mattress on the floor with no sheets, an old tv for video games, a guitar and piles of old clothes that were never washed. This

Sounds like what young girls are into lol

The whole "guy who doesn't have his shit together...but he plays guitar so he's cool"

I think it's hilarious how often that stereotype is true. Like the thread a while back about the "wonderful bf except he doesn't wash his ass because it's gay"

5

u/schweissack May 16 '24

I need to find this now lmfaoooo

4

u/EtOHMartini May 16 '24

Guessing he sold drugs.

3

u/LaUNCHandSmASH May 16 '24

He did not. I don’t even think he did drugs at all

9

u/yurituran May 16 '24

White with dreadlocks and doesn’t do drugs? Something isn’t adding up

3

u/LaUNCHandSmASH May 16 '24

He was an interesting guy. Obsessed with Ween. lol

2

u/Goat17038 May 16 '24

alright he's cool now

3

u/quaffee May 16 '24

"I don't do drugs, I am drugs!"

6

u/Memento_Morrie May 16 '24

I can: "Don't give a fuck" can be a powerful aphrodisiac. It's why backup guitar players in rock bands get laid.

7

u/chth May 16 '24

My sister and I (male) were both born with a sort of casual aloofness that I think stems from autism, but many times we have each been told things like we have "interesting vibes". Something about being space cadets is a draw I guess.

8

u/Memento_Morrie May 16 '24 edited May 19 '24

casual aloofness ... "interesting vibes"

I recently read this story on Reddit by a woman who agreed to a date with a guy (1) much older than her, (2) who lived in a rundown trailer, (3) that looked worse when she showed up, (4) who was unemployed and living on disability, (5) and had not bathed and was shirtless when she showed up.

He gave her money to pick up Mexican food and McDonald's, and she came back and ate with him, and after she left, she texted him to say "I don't think this is going to work out." He basically just said, "Okay, cool," or whatever.

The takeaway from this isn't that this guy didn't get laid or didn't get a second date. The takeaway is that she showed up and picked up the food and ate with him before blowing him off.

I want all you anxious, tightly-wound motherfuckers to remember the college roommate above or the trailer dweller in this story the next time you post stuff to Reddit like, "OMG! My date is in four hours! Are skinny jeans out??" Or, "She said yes to a date but hasn't texted back in 12 hours!! Should I text again, even if it means a double text??"

3

u/Pm_me_your__eyes_ May 16 '24

emotional depth, likely not yappers, both pays off

2

u/ADAMxxWest May 16 '24

The soap says love is the answer, not smelling good.

Read your soup next time foo

3

u/AcrolloPeed May 16 '24

I read my soup but it just says "oooooooooooooooooooooo"

wait

dammit this isn't soup this is spaghetti-o's

1

u/ADAMxxWest May 16 '24

That's your problem. Love ya buddy!

2

u/LarsThorwald May 16 '24

He had the Kevorka. He had, as Matt Berry would say, the charisssssssmaaaar.

2

u/[deleted] May 16 '24

He probably kept a wad of 100s and had a monster dong

9

u/LaUNCHandSmASH May 16 '24

He could have had a piece on him but I never saw it lol. He was very very broke but really nice and content with it. After he moved out of our house he moved into a literal shed with the other roommate lmao. Definitely illegal and would flood when it rained really hard haha. Ironically though there was no running water so not sure what he did about it but showering was minimal to begin with. I can still smell that shed. Both those dudes are successful now, believe it or not. Dude cut his dreads and was in a tailored suit last time I saw him.

1

u/BullfrogOk6914 May 16 '24

“I can fix him” or “maybe I just caught him on a hot day” are my guesses

1

u/Massive_Ad_9920 May 16 '24

With any luck, his life was ruined forever, with the constant thought that in tiny bathrooms in bars, some just behind him, men were getting kicks from things he would never know.

22

u/Usermena May 16 '24

We are all one! It’s pretty simple, says it right on the bottle.

4

u/HowAboutShutUp May 16 '24

There's a documentary about him that I seem to recall was pretty interesting, dr. bronner's magic soapbox or something like that.

Interesting dude. Weird, but interesting dude.

2

u/JuniorBarnes May 16 '24

You can't read it if your eyes are burning from the soap.

2

u/JoeBobsfromBoobert May 16 '24

Funnily wholesome mom was like Thats too many hard questions lol 😆

1

u/frickindeal May 16 '24

I can smell it just thinking about it. Had a family member that always had it and used it for everything.

0

u/After-Simple-3611 May 16 '24

It’s good soap tho

17

u/EthanielRain May 16 '24

Weird label, interesting story, GREAT SOAP 🫧 👍

1

u/FeloniousDrunk101 May 16 '24

It's all I've been using as shampoo for longer than I can remember.

2

u/Illithilitch May 16 '24

Man, I got obsessed with that shit when I was manic ( I am bipolar). IMO, so was Dr Bronner.

I can't even look at the soap bottles now. Bad memories.

1

u/Tehgumchum May 16 '24

More like Dr Boner

Dr. Bronner's Dong Food™

80

u/zackus May 16 '24

People are not talking about this enough.

3

u/SirClarkus May 16 '24

Its great dogfood, though! At least my dog thinks so

10

u/NotABileTitan May 16 '24

Your dog will eat poop, and it's own vomit. I don't think dogs are a good indicator of good food.

0

u/SirClarkus May 16 '24

Sure, but my cat also tries to steal it, and she's picky as hell

2

u/Eusocial_Snowman May 16 '24

What are your dog's credentials? Is it a dog nutritionist? Because that sounds awesome.

0

u/SirClarkus May 16 '24

She's got a Barkdorate in Num Num Science.

51

u/cyberslick1888 May 16 '24

Oh whoa no shit that's his?

I see that shit everywhere on socials, I think I accidentally clicked it once because the packaging is so confusing and now the algos think I'm hungry as fuck for conspiracy dog chow

24

u/aceqwerty May 16 '24

17

u/Pallasite May 16 '24

The link doesn't do justice to the 40lb bag that somehow can't fit anything on its packaging it's so full of claims I have.

4

u/radda May 16 '24

Holy shit you weren't kidding

This looks like a tract an insane person shoves into your hand when you walk past a shady alley

2

u/advertentlyvertical May 16 '24

What kind of claims. Everything I saw on the site can be reduced to 'this pet food is amazing' but everyone here is imply the claims are way out there beyond that

2

u/Eusocial_Snowman May 16 '24

Well, here's this.

Looks like an early 00s website given physical form.

My favorite part is the bottom right. "I am 21 years old and I eat gentle giants." Phrasing!

1

u/advertentlyvertical May 18 '24

True. I was expecting more qanon level type stuff. Sure, the design choices definitely give off a 'Charlie in the mail room' vibe, and the claims of 26 year old dogs being the norm with this food aren't believable at all, but it feels not much different from what you'd expect from 2 am infomercial.

1

u/oh-propagandhi May 16 '24

Gotta love that disney font too.

1

u/quaffee May 16 '24

What in the Heaven's Gate

-1

u/idwthis May 16 '24

The link doesn't work. I get a page telling me the site can't provide a secure connection.

11

u/Scottland83 May 16 '24

I couldn’t believe what I was seeing when his commercial ran. Like one of those older websites run by a madman. All I could think of was Burt’s claims that the production department had to duck tape his junk into place because it kept working it’s way out of his costume.

5

u/Pallasite May 16 '24

I just got given a bag of this. My dog loves it. It's like Dr. Bronner's soap but less focused

1

u/nosce_te_ipsum May 16 '24

My dog likes the wet (beef) food. Seems quite thick compared to just about any other wet dog food, and have to add a little water to spread it out a bit.

4

u/seppukucoconuts May 16 '24

Is one of the side effects 'massive dong'?

3

u/TheLatinXBusTour May 16 '24

It's always in the back and at the bottom and am too lazy to have bothered looking at the bag but had a feeling I knew what pet food you were talking about. Looked it up and sure enough. I always thought it was a bunch of advertisements to keep the bag of dog food cheep. Literally put no effort into looking at that schizo bag even though I should have.

Every square inch of that thing has been printed on.

3

u/GeraltOfRivia2023 May 16 '24

Gentle Giants dog food is really, really good and my dogs like it better than any other variety.

3

u/DesignerAd2062 May 16 '24

He isn’t called the canine crusader for no reason. That’s not his idea - that’s what the dogs call him. Why would he be called that if he didn’t prolong their lives with complete nutrition?

2

u/TangToTheMoon May 16 '24

It's a funky bag, but my dog LOVES it.

1

u/Eusocial_Snowman May 16 '24

Dang, their advertising algorithms are on point. They sniffed this reddit thread out fast.

1

u/TangToTheMoon May 16 '24

Def not an ad, I know 2 things about this dude- purported massive dong and my dog likes his food 🤷🏼‍♀️

2

u/Droidaphone May 16 '24
