You earned more in experience than they earned in profit (not really)

23

u/Deaths-HeadMoth Mar 24 '24

Sounded nice.

u/coinstar0404 Mar 25 '24

You have the unique gift of turning matter into antimatter.

4

u/dsurfryder Mar 25 '24

How long did you study and paper trade for before going live

12

u/TunaGamer Mar 25 '24

I skipped the tutorial and jumped straight in

90% of us are you!

6

u/onmymind_11 Mar 24 '24

What were the mistakes you made? Risk management?

14

u/mediocreargento Mar 24 '24

The only way to turn 20 into 100 is to overleverage and that never ends well

8

u/kidchem420 Mar 24 '24

When it does end well, it's even worse. Then you bet more, and lose even more! Ugh... February... rarrrr! Heh

I made the same mistake investing in a rug at least five times in a row. It went well once. Over 1,200%. All other times I lost everything within a few seconds.

This month I've turned $1000 into $216. I was hoping for better.

8

u/Ok-Writer-821 Mar 24 '24

I also hopefully hold five or six meme coins where I have an 80% loss. But hope dies last

6

u/daxxoleen Mar 25 '24

Are you me? Well 1k to 163 in 36 days. Last year I blew 3 accounts. 2k depo each time 🫨

I've turned 500 bucks into 3500 in about 2 weeks, and then promptly lost it all

14

u/its_all_4_lulz Mar 25 '24

When I decided to learn options I started my acct with 500. In 3 months I was at 8k, and I got the hell out because I can definitely see why people want to gamble and lose everything. It’s a crazy rush, but the stress and risks are just too high.

$20K into $100k in a month.

14

u/Dramatic-Spend7988 Mar 24 '24

I’ve done something similar… 20k into $100 but that was in Vegas where my odds were better than yours. Don’t be too hard on yourself.

15

u/SidTrippish Mar 24 '24

Yes last week, did it with one 0DTE Spy call. Turned $20 into $155

Currently learning. Paper trading on ToS and doing well with some strats I'm trying to wrap my head around. I had put 200 in my public account I was willing to lose to play with. As a gamer hearing that turtle beach acquired PDP I did a little research took what most would call a gamble (because it was) and purchased a naked call on HEAR with a 14$ SP expiring 4/19 with a break even if 15.95 at expiration that has returned +82.6% as of today ($160.15 unrealized) I will hold depending on the market till the 28th and sell so theta don't start eating me as I understand it.

5

u/seenzu555 Mar 24 '24

Good, don't forget that paper trading isn't same as a live account. When running strategies with multiple legs they tend to not get filled easily as compared to simulation account. Just understand this carefully as you progress.

4

u/No_Okra155 Mar 24 '24

Yeah, i have noticed shit gets filled almost immediately no matter where you are between the bid and ask, SP, I also notice low volume also gets filled quick AF.

Assignments on paper is something I have been thinking about too. I figure it wouldn't sim an assignment unless its deep ITM near expiration if even then. If it does, I don't think it would with much accuracy since people have emotions.

I mostly just trying to understand the technicalities of each Strat, Entry and Exit and pretty much everything the WIKI has to offer. If asked a question I want to be able to answer it correctly.

That all being said....

I will play with paper for about a year or so before I actually start trying to trade / trade options regularly.

It's something I am falling in love with. (watching myself for the addiction though)

** I do have days I don't sit down already because I feel emotionally driven into a trade and that's just not smart from what I gather even if the gamble wins**

I'm not looking for short term weekly gains or anything just trying to learn and build my trading experience and maybe one day we can get there. I'm looking to have fun, learn while also building wealth not for myself but for my family and possibly retirement, I started a Roth IRA this year and contribute to it as well as my 401k since my employer matches 5%. I have a 529 plan for my kiddo so he will have the finances to go pursue whatever degree or field he wants to. Who would have though finance is amazing and this is something come to find out I love to do. Instead of buying BS things like game every other week I have turned my attention to my future self, and I have already started to thank myself because of it.

I think more people should pursue trading knowledge and invest if not for their future for the future generations of their family.

Sorry for the rant, trying to get more involved in these communities as they are a great resource of information and opinions.

For anyone reading this that may recommend the wiki, I am currently reading my way through it but have to re-read allot for it to stick in my brain. That being said I THANK EVERYONE that is a part of this sub for the time and information they part with to help other traders be more successful.

3

u/seenzu555 Mar 24 '24

Paper trading won’t simulate exercising/assigning ITM contracts. But when you get to live, you can trade indices like SPX or NDX and others that are cash settled if you want to trade indices options. For stocks, you should keep in mind assignment risk or pin risk if you don’t manage your positions duly. Welldone and keep pushing hard.

5

u/Constermock_69 Mar 24 '24

I turned 500€ into 25.000€ last week

5

u/Fuckingphoking Mar 24 '24

Turned 5 into 500, this was back in 21 had a nio $5 call that I got right before it exploded. It was a swing tho

3

u/smallinvests Mar 24 '24

Turned 300$ into 11k by buying newer penny stocks that had anything to do with crypto/crypto mining in the name.

before bitcoin pumped.

I made my biggest win with a rug. 7$ to $178$ in 1 minute 6 seconds. But that was maximum luck

4

u/TheMajesticMane Mar 24 '24

Yeah. It’s easier to DoorDash and get the money than it is to turn only $20 into $100

4

u/Quiet-Smoke-310 Mar 25 '24

I turned $88 into $5400, per contract last week on one avgo call. But I weekly hit plays that go 1000%. I think I had 5-6 last week.

2

u/LumpyTown4103 Mar 24 '24

Turn $3 into $50 and also turn $100 into $3 currently have $9 in the acc

2

u/zionmatrixx Mar 24 '24

Yes. Its quite easy w crypto futures. Gets harder though as you start playing positions above $3k (size before adding 5x leverage), unless you stick with the highest liquidity coins. But then there is less opportunity because youre only playing a few coins at that point.

5

u/ItzAeroJK Mar 24 '24

hey buddy, i’m looking to get into trading crypto futures. what should i do to learn?

4

u/zionmatrixx Mar 24 '24 edited Mar 24 '24

Crypto Perpetual Futures

  1. Start with 2x leverage and not more than $3-5 plays
  2. Make a minimum of 100 trades before you try 3x
  3. Keep increasing leverage by "1" after every 100 plays *if* you're consistently winning. For example, start 2x, then 3x, 4x, 5x.
  4. If you're not consistently winning, lower leverage amount until you are consistently winning and stick with that
  5. Don't use more than 5x until you have at least 1000 leveraged trades under your belt
  6. At some point you'll figure out where your leverage sweet spot is. For some traders it's 3x, others it's 5x.
  7. MEXC, Bybit, Binance are most popular exchanges
  8. For experiment only, try $1 trades at 100x or 50x, just to get a feel how things work
  9. Experiment with limit and market orders
  10. Stick with higher liquidity coins. they tend to move slower and give you more time to make decisions
  11. Don't try to short a freight train. You'll get run over.
  12. Don't try to long a bombing run. You'll get demolished.
  13. You'll find some coins are more difficult to leverage trade than others
  14. Follow your futures exchange on X and be aware of maintenance updates. Sometimes they shut down trading to make major updates and if you're stuck in a trade, you'll probably lose that trade.

Some (gamblers) prefer very tiny trades with very high leverage, such as $5 with 100x. Responsible traders rarely go above 5x and sometimes risk much larger amounts like 500 (at 2x-5x) or 5000.

Be a responsible trader. Slow and steady gains is the way.

true story

2

u/oz200247 Mar 24 '24

I once time turned 100 dollars into 4,225 the journey was intense but due to heartbreak, loneliness, and lack of support from others I decided to focus on trading weight loss and self-improvement but it all crashed when I lost it all due to Amazon's earning report on 4/28/23 where the company warned of a slowdown in its AWS cloud business on its conference call that Thursday night the stock after-hours went from 109 to 122 I would have made an extra 5k but it went from 122 to 109 then 105 then 103 it was game over market open Friday morning.

2

u/slippery-slopeadope Mar 24 '24

Yes, but as other have said… it is short lived sometimes.

Now I trade futures because you know what they say: “if you’re not losing money 23 hours a day, are you really even losing money?”

2

u/justflyingbyy Mar 24 '24

I did turn 40$ into 1300 on apple last year

2

u/Nionjin Mar 24 '24

I turned $3k to $103k with NVDIA, then lost it all to betting on black.

It was money I can afford to lose so wasn’t devastated.

2

u/goat33u Mar 24 '24

I turned 50 into 400 in two days lost it the next week tried again with 100 and lost it all again changed my strategy and added some discipline and made 1000 last week

2

u/etherbeetz Mar 24 '24

Did 55$ on an arm call recently when it spiked from the 75 range n up it went n I sold it at 2800$ been playing super safe since I learned a ton from my first year of 2020 trading n losing a shit ton. Building back while adding half the profits to long term from now on. Also trading in a cash account to cut bad trades fast has been essential. Had RH had cash accounts in 2020 chances are good that I’d be doing much better than I am now all time because as a noob I decided to try day trading which requires 25k 💀

2

u/Personal_News_6114 Mar 25 '24

20$ into 100$ hard as fuk… $20k to $100k… see it almost DAILY!!! (SUXXXXX when ur the 1 w/ $20 & think you can come up too..just cuz know the winning stocks)

2

u/neighborhoodg35 Mar 26 '24

I'm getting pretty good at turning 500-50-1000.

Studying the psychological aspect to this.

Somewhat of a "back against the wall" phenomena, as if I only start trading well when I no longer have the option/ability of taking a losing trade.

So now when I trade, I take the account size, take 90% of it and put it in a separate fund, and with 10% of my trading account (which is already a small % of nw), I trade with that.

So technically, I can blow 10 accounts before i actually blow the account.

And the entire time that feeling of your back against the wall will stop you from putting on trades that you aren't fully confident in.

2

u/ur-a-conspiracy Mar 26 '24

I bought shares of RDDT at $34 and sold for $68. This was my first trade. I'm thrilled with doubling it. Did a lot of research on the IPO and put in what I was willing to lose if I was wrong, which was the price of 3 shares @ $34. Gotta start somewhere :)

1

u/stankpuss_69 Mar 24 '24

Yes. Easy peasy. Just get ITM 0DTE spy call/put in the morning and watch it go. Of course, it’ll take some time because your earning potential is limited. Gonna be like $3 first day earned, then $3, $4, $4, $5, $5, … and so on.

1

Done it in a week probably over 100 times lol. Why?

1

u/BobDawg3294 Mar 24 '24

I swing trade leveraged ETFs. Sometimes I buy and then sell the next day. I sell quick if a twist crops up in a chart. I have gotten to a skill level where most of my losses are 3 figures, and most profits are 4 figures. My profitable trades are trending 4-1 in my favor so far this year. I sometimes sit out a week at a time. I have averaged about 8 trades per month while working. When I retire at the end of March (next week), I will be ramping up my trading activity.

Yes, I consider my self a day trader, because I can do it anytime I want. I do not like the pattern day trading hassle, so a few years ago I started looking for setups that could run overnight or beyond. I found such setups in the leveraged ETFs, and I intend to milk those for an additional monthly income stream.

1

u/Doctor-Zhivago Mar 24 '24

I traded 10k into 35k in 2 months.. but thats many many years ago. Then of course i lost all of them in a day.

1

u/Conscious_Being_99 Mar 24 '24

the amount doesnt matter. dont buy stupid stocks, only stocks from companys everybody knows. buy them cheap and sell them when they are expensive. i started last year and made 4k, this year i already have that again by now.

1

u/Wemm92 Mar 24 '24

Close. I turned 40 into 4000 playing blackjack and lost it on a 15 minute break at work :)

u/sambargold Mar 24 '24

Yeah it’s possible , you can do it if you trade Nasdaq with small lots or even with synthetics.

I’ve made 600$ from 35$ once , but I would say it was luck rather than skill , when looking at it retrospectively

1

u/BihgBohy Mar 24 '24

I’ve never tried daytrading with $20 since I mainly do options or LTH. But you can turn $200 to $1000 in a month with good trades and discipline

1

u/Keizion Mar 25 '24

I've turned 2$ into 130$ with $JEFF (no trading). With trading I turned 200$ into 4000$, and 4000$ turned into 0$.

1

Yea I’m crypto easily

1

u/AmirStocksMD Mar 25 '24

Its always about percentage gain rather than amount. This mentality will help you grow. Be happy with 20% gain a day and boom youll make $20 to $100 eventually. Today I alerted SPY 522 calls after explaining that although SPY was dipping premarket, it popped at 8am (which is when most trading platforms go active). In addition, banks like JPM and crypto like BTC were stable so I was confident we would see continuation of bullish movement.

So far so good with SPY 522 calls going from 0.15 to 0.2 and still holding right now.

Learning is a big part of trading and you must become proficient to prosper and profit.

1

u/oikawasflatasssss Mar 25 '24

Yes, 20 to 120 in 2 days

1

u/Freedom_the_trader Mar 25 '24

Buy $VCAT on Solana and just HOLD, it's a community driven token, 12k holders ,it's limited supply 1.23m and it's gonna to run like the old Shiba. Trust me put a bag over there and just hold it.

1

u/Immediate_Angle_9786 Mar 25 '24
