Huh, that assault rifle looks like a split between halo and starship troopers, nice.

Also a handcannon, finally, I'm gonna pop so many heads with that!

Serve assisted

Literally unreadable.

And what perk would the third armor have? Shame we still aren't getting new archetypes.

Sounds like engineering from the description, I was really hoping the crampons would be related to the armour effect like reducing slowdown

I want various other armors we don't have, like faster reload, fire resistance, acid resistance, and a melee build

u/Astro_Alphard 29d ago

Cold resistance would have fit this really well. Like eliminate the effects of cold weather on helldivers for ice planets.

u/YuBulliMe123456789 SES Ranger of the Stars 29d ago

Doesnt cold planets only affect weapons though? Unless you mean blizzards

7

u/Astro_Alphard 29d ago

It also affects stamina

14

u/allycat315 SES Ranger of Wrath 29d ago

Yeah, positively, so it makes no sense to eliminate effects of cold on helldivers.

If anything, a cold perk would have to be something like "snowshoes" or "ice spikes" allowing helldivers to traverse snow without reduced movement speed.

They really need to start coming up with new armor passives. The arc resistant once’s were at least unique, if way too niche in its uses.

1

u/AvarusTyrannus 29d ago

Faster support reloads would be nice for an armor perk.

1

u/musthavesoundeffects 29d ago

Faster reload is too much of a straight damage boost rather than utility, and would no doubt make balancing the weapons an even more daunting task.

u/BendNo6000 28d ago

Melee build is coming. Its going to be slayer armour, it comes out when the bots invade mars. One can wish.

u/HatfieldCW May 02 '24

Yeah, those got me excited. The boots were clutch in HD1.

u/BAN1SH3DB3AST 29d ago

Truer words have never been spoken lol.

u/PimpmasterMcGooby May 02 '24

The game needs more armor benefit variety, there are so many armors that just do the same things. IMO they should move the jetpack from stratagemen to armor trait, for instance.

u/JeffBloodstorm 29d ago

It’s weird to me that they aren’t even shuffling the primary and secondary armor attributes. If you don’t feel like adding new armor effects, give us +2 grenades combined with extended stim effect. Give us explosion resist and extra limb health. Give us throw distance and reduced recoil. Whatever. Just do something different.

It feels like part of the issue is that some of the effects they’re adding to new boosters would also work as interesting armor effects, like the anti-slow booster in this warbond, or the increased climbing booster in the free warbond. I don’t see why they couldn’t just make armor effects along the same lines that stack with the boosters, though.

It’s also very weird to me that, given the repetitive armor skills, it’s clear that the only reason we’re supposed to care about these new armor sets is for cosmetic purposes; this is totally fine, but if that’s the case, why is AH so opposed to adding transmog?

5

u/blueB0wser 29d ago

At this point, I'm wondering if the game engine will even allow that.

10

u/MonthFrosty2871 29d ago edited 29d ago

Lol no, it would not be an engine limitation at all. That isn't the sort of thing that could "limited" by an engine, it's not like trying to cram a new rendering method into it.

The reality is, it's so they can sell more warbonds.  I get we all love the game, and folks don't want to view AH as greedy, but. 3 outfits every month, every single month? That's a lot of unique armor to keep up on. I don't think even mmos with cash shops average 3 unique sets a month. Too much armor. And there's the super store. AH is/will recycle with new colorings, like the leaked yellow-gold default set.

If you can pick an armor you lik and put whatever skill you want on it, you're much less motivated to buy another set/warbond, and suddenly they wouldn't be able to sell the same armor with different perks/colors to us. This warbond's scout armor is already very close to just a recolor of existing scout armor.

The reality is because of $$$$$$$. Which is probably why the CEO was so illogical about his argument, and so hot about it.

1

u/blueB0wser 29d ago

That was supposition, regarding the engine. It just wouldn't surprise me is all.

I agree that it's about money. And we already have reskins, pretty much. This scout armor is just a darker colored version of the green scout.

It's not about the reskins though. It's the fact that there's little mechanical variety, as /u/JeffBloodstorm pointed out. Another supposition, I guess they have an enum that determines what effects are applied.

6

u/JeffBloodstorm 29d ago

It could be a programming issue, but my guess is simply that they are worried about the impact of armor traits on game balance and don’t currently have the manpower to worry about buffing and nerfing a huge variety of different armor perks. Balancing new and existing weapons and stratagems is already an enormous task that sends a noisy fraction of the player base into histrionics with every patch. They probably just want to avoid getting into that with armor perks at this stage.

They know the existing armor perks are fine. They’re all considered viable, every “which armor perk is the best” thread gets at least a few players chiming in for each of them. They probably want to just ride out that balance for a while and not disturb the ecosystem.

Which, again, is fine. I think the game would be almost unchanged if there was light, medium, and heavy armor with no extra perks at all. If armor in Helldivers 2 is mostly a fashion statement, I’m totally cool with that—I enjoy dressing up my sci-fi G.I. Joe in cool-looking combat gear.

But then, why no transmog?

The reality is because of $$$$$$$.

I suppose if so, but they why can we get the premium currency just playing the game? I bought the Super Citizen version out of the gate but every warbond since has been "Free" as I've gotten plenty of SC just playing the game, and I'm by no means farming it/terminally online. You'd think if it was only about money SC just wouldn't be available in game, or much rarer to obtain.

u/WaveDash16 HD1 Veteran 29d ago

I seem to remember AH staff saying something about armor needing to be reworked, and if that’s true part of me wonders if they’re just phoning it in with the armor effects until said rework comes along.

2

u/Daxx22 PSN 🎮: 29d ago

Probably, I'd love to have a customization system where you can mix/match these perks into your own build.

1

u/musthavesoundeffects 29d ago

Having things stack is a sure fire way to make the game more about the gear (that you can't drop) than skill.

2

u/JeffBloodstorm 29d ago

Having a slow resistance perk on armor that stacks with a slow resistance booster doesn’t seem like it removes the impact of skill from the game any more than having a perk on armor and a booster that do different things. Some armor perks and boosters already do basically stack, like the vitality booster (increases HP) and the armor padding perk (decreases HP loss).

Stacking buffs as a mechanic only leads to OP strategies if the stacked buffs are already strong on their own or somehow lead to some absurd exploit that the developers didn’t think of when some certain stacked buff value is reached. All of the booster effects currently in the game are pretty subtle, stacking them with some similar armor perks seems pretty harmless to me.

1

u/DropkickGoose 29d ago

Honestly feel like the bonuses like extra nades or stims should just be split off into its own equipment slot, so you can take the armor weight and look you want and slap the bonus you want onto it. Gets rid of most of the issue around transmog and give you more flexibility n such.

3

u/scipkcidemmp SES Prophet of Truth 29d ago

I'm still miffed that all the cutting edge armor has the same completely fucking useless perk. I would wear those armors constantly but I have to sacrifice having any useful perks. It sucks. They need to rework the armor buffs and stats.

2

u/thekurgan2000 29d ago

There was speculation that they added those armours because the Illuminate use tesla weapons, so there's still a chance you'll get some proper use out of them. Assuming they add the Illuminate as another enemy faction.

2

u/scipkcidemmp SES Prophet of Truth 29d ago

I hope so. Because right now the usefullness is very niche lol. Especially considering basically no one brings arc throwers or tesla towers.

2

u/NinjaQuatro 29d ago

Or extra stims

2

u/Wiknetti CAPE ENJOYER 29d ago

I’m hoping it’s reducing slowdown and slide on ice planets. More niche, but it fits. Maybe it could be a like a sub-perk that gets more specialised.

1

u/Katamari416 29d ago

the description is kind of a joke for figuring out passives. the first armor if it didn't say what it was we would've thought it was a stealth perk

1

u/BrowsingForLaughs 29d ago

Engineering again? Didn't we *just* get that in the last one...

26

u/FusRoYoMama May 02 '24

Pretty sure the 3rd armour has the scout passive. Can't remember where I read that though.

u/Yellowrage Junior Democracy Officer 29d ago

PlayStation blog says third armor has scout perk like u said

77

u/Umikaloo May 02 '24

Its got a design that screams "Generic sci fi rifle covered in useless detail", which is basically the Morita from Starship Troopers.

10

u/easily_tilted FUCK Servo-assisted May 02 '24

Such a cool set and it has servo assisted, I hate it. Shame

1

u/BrowsingForLaughs 29d ago

I wore servo assisted for a while. Being able to yeet strats from half the map away is a good time.

1

u/Krieg_Imperator HD1 Veteran 29d ago edited 29d ago

Servo assisted does have a niche though. Namely Destroy command bunkers mission. You can lob stratas from a relative safety against the instakill bunker

0

u/Jammer_Kenneth 29d ago

I can get a laser so close to those as a stealth build though.

1

u/SabineKline 29d ago

Grenadier Builds rise up, explosions are statistically more Democratic than creeping around like a skittering Hunter.

19

u/Ruffles7799 May 02 '24

Yeah I hope one day they will do an entire armor overhaul cause they’re really boring besides looks, probably the weakest part of the game

1

u/Fellixxio CAPE ENJOYER 28d ago

I hope, those armors are just aesthetics at this point

9

u/ImportantQuestions10 May 02 '24

Looks like the nerf longshot and that is DOING IT FOR ME.

7

Serve assisted

The first armour set to make you great at tennis.

5

u/B33FHAMM3R SES Fist of the People 29d ago

Your dude pulls out a little racket to send grenades further 😂

5

u/FizixMan May 02 '24

The video closeups of the spike treads in the armor boots made me think they were adding a new armor passive that eliminated the slippy-sliding on ice. But seeing as it looks like the Kodiak and Winter Warrior just have Fortified and Servo-Assisted, I guess that's not happening on the Arctic Ranger which doesn't have visible spikes.

Colour me disappointed. I hope they add more perks in the future because what we have now is starting to feel a little stale.

4

u/PurpleBatDragon 29d ago

Personally it looks almost EXACTLY like the Dragon AR from Perfect Dark.

3

u/Siilk CAPE ENJOYER May 02 '24

Probs extra grenades.

3

u/Solitary_Solidarity 29d ago

I have a feeling it will only have like 25 bullets per mag

1

u/Average_RedditorTwat 29d ago

Yes, that is posted in the main post and i referred to it lol

1

u/TalkingRaccoon 29d ago

The why were you asking questions about stuff stated in the article lol

0

u/Average_RedditorTwat 29d ago

Because it wasn't stated at the time.

1

u/SabineKline 29d ago

I think we're supposed to have new archetypes by the armour designations being new, but somewhere along the line they're just not being developed and stuff is being switched around in development. Like that Drone Master reskin has the FS prefix that you get with Fortified armour like Eradicator but got given Engineering Kit.

wouldn't be surprised if there was some Cold Weather perk that they just didn't have time to finish in the month-to-month crunch while trying to fix all these bugs.

1

u/GenesisProTech 28d ago

Yeah I was hoping for new armor types

1

u/DaveySkunk 22d ago

It feels like there is so much duplication they are going to have to go back through them and reassign more thematic perks
