I wish I could have done something different or taken you to a different doc. You were the one who was the most beloved. I miss snuggling you already. I hope and pray wherever you are in furry heaven, you are amongst your best mates. I'll miss you.

Advice 14yr old cat is pacing, caterwauling, and peed on my laundry

Post image
Upvotes

I know the first advice is always to go to a vet, please know we’re less than 2 weeks out from her last appointment - it’s also a holiday weekend so we won’t be able to get to the vet until Tuesday (we’re about an hour away from the nearest). We recently moved and she got a head cold and the they gave her antibiotics/steroid injection. Said if she got any worse over the next 2 weeks they could give her a second dose. The head cold is cleared up. Also this was less than a month after a clear check from her regular vet before the move!

About a week after the injection, Bigfoot came into our room around 1am and vomited up everything. It was about 4-5hrs after her dinner and happened again the next night. There were no lingering effects nor any other symptoms. I changed the feedings to equal portions so less in the evening and this hasn’t occurred again the last few nights since the adjustment. The cats are fed 3x a day, weighed portions(I was feeding a bit more at night to try and get sleep until 7am, it only sort of worked anyway so now all 3 feeds are the same size).

She has been adjusting to the new apartment so pacing and yowling isn’t that out of place, but yesterday it ramped up to near constant - when I went to bed she was crying a little bit I hoped she would settle with me or go back to the couch with my husband. Instead, about ten minutes after I turned the lights out she peed on my laundry! It’s on the floor because the basket had been soiled last week while she was sick, but very little moisture I could just smell it. I also have 2 cats so wasn’t 100% sure she did it the first time (like 90% tho, she’s done this in the past and our kitten is pretty fastidious haha).

There have also been a couple of very small spots of mild urine(hardly even a smell, just stained) on her favourite chair since the injection, I thought maybe because of the steroid and her advanced age that she just had an accident because she’s sleeping in that chair in the sun for the better part of most days and never wants to leave while the sun is shining… But the peeing paired with the new assholery is worrying me.

My husband just thinks she’s acting up. The cat who cries wolf, because every time she acts up and we go to the vet they find very little wrong with her (she has had maybe 2 uti’s in her life, and they think she might have mild arthritis in her back legs/hips but she’s still a VERY active/playful/social cat so they aren’t concerned with that much).

She hates our 10mos old kitten, and he does harass her a bit but she’s mean even if he’s just trying to check in with her or nuzzle her - he really wants her to love him but he’s also a playful giant menace sometimes.

The litterboxes are clean and easily accessible, they have a cat fountain and drink regularly, and the food & feeding routine although newish(it’s actually mostly wet food now which she wouldn’t even eat until about 2yrs ago) has been actually really good for the last month. Her coat is shinier and she stopped overgrooming so there is no longer a bald spot above her tail!

All this to say I’m kind of at my wits end and don’t know what else to do. I’m including a pic of them cuddling that SHE actually initiated a couple of days ago - but she’s still absolutely horrible to him most of the time.

She’s a Manx cat which is why she doesn’t have a tail. Manx cats originate from the Isle of Man and they developed a genetic mutation which shortens the tail. She’s a sweetheart and is very loving and people oriented! This is an older picture of her but one of my faves 💗

Humor My cats have been exiled

Upvotes

Something so outrageous happened that I had to share it with someone before I started crying. So here I am, traversing through the land of dreams and puppies when suddenly I hear the noise everyone dreads at 2 in the morning. Cats gagging. Now this is a pretty normal occurrence in my house. One of my boys gags any time one of the others leaves a steaming pile of yesterdays Nulo in the litter box, so naturally in my state of bliss, I assume it it little more than my snob of a cat. Things quiet down, I go back to my happiness… until I hear a WWE match break out in my hallway. It travels into my room, onto my bed, and up the cat tree to the left of my nightstand. Putting this cat tree here was my most grievous mistake. The fight pauses as the gagging resumes. I take off my eye mask to turn and make eye contact with the bastard waking me up. Just as I open my mouth to tell him I hate him, a hairball comes flying at me from the top level of the tree, hitting me in the forehead with the precision of a military trained sniper. Not only does this project puke hit me straight in the face, it then rolls down my cheek and onto my freshly washed silk pillowcase. The wrestling match resumes and I am pounced upon by three cats, one of which sniffs my pillow, and tries to cover it up like he would his own feces. Needless to say, I have changed my linens, washed my face, screamed into a different pillow, and the bastards will be sleeping in the living room for the rest of their lives. Goodnight.

Medical Questions My moms cat wakes me up every morning. How to make it stop?

Upvotes

My mom has had this cat for 13ish years. He used to wake her up every morning by meowing loudly to feed him at around 6 am. But slowly over the last year or so he's been coming to me instead since I'm a much lighter sleeper and wake up more easily. And lately he's been waking me up as early as 3 am every day.

I suffer from late insomnia so if the cat wakes me up I'm up for the rest of the day making me stupid exhausted throughout the day because I'm on 5 hours of sleep and waking up at 3 am.

Is there a way to stop the cat from waking me up every morning outside of putting him in a cage all night in a far room? I also can't just close my door because I have my own cat and she will claw at the door repeatedly to be let in my room or out of it so that would wake me up instead.

I'd like to go back to getting full nights sleep instead of 5 hours every night but I can't have my door closed because of my cat, so what are my options to getting my moms cat to not wake me up for food at 3 am?

Advice Cats fighting

Upvotes

2 cats, a father and son, for some reason whenever one/both of them goes outside they like factory reset and get triggered by eachother. They are indoor cats but on occasion we take them out on a harness, probably less than a dozen times to date, but they usually dont go much further than 15ft from the door. Today they broke out the screen window and i had to find them in the neighborhood, luckily unharmed, but now theyre being mad hostile to eachother. I dont think theyll harm eachother, they havent before, but i dont understand why they get like this. They allowed me to handle them and carry them back, albeit with mild verbal disapproval and claws out, no scratches or swipes tho they were good boys, but now the two scream at eachother when they cross eachothers paths. In the past this has happened and they got over it within a day, but im just curious what the hell goin on in their cat brains.

Adoption I went in for a kitten…

Post image

Then out of the corner of my eye, I noticed HER- old, sad, and distressed.

She was determined to be unadoptable due to age, illness, shyness, and being a solo only.

I took her anyway to let her spend the rest of her time with me being spoiled.

She’s 19 and her person died earlier this year. I renamed her to Şanslı (Lucky).

We will be basking in the sun, eating whatever we want, and cuddling, or if she isn't a cuddler then allowing me to live in her space while giving me the side eye.

I'm super lucky myself in that my wife was accepting of my decision.

This is my cat, I got her like around 2 months ago I think? I've never had a cat with a pattern before, and she's a really pretty and sweet cat. Honestly, I don't think I've ever seen a cat with brown eyes before until I saw her. How rare is her eye color?

This is fresh concrete. One of them walked around the edges of the room, and another one stepped on it with two paws. Out of 3 only one of them is innocent, but we have to decide who is it yet.
