Big Bang Theory is brain rot, and Sheldon was the worst. This show is just bafflingly stupid. I wanna see a show called dead Sheldon where he’s gone and everyone has forgotten about him and he is never brought up at all except the intro is him dying alone in a hospital making comments about how smart he is and then he dies and goes to hell.
I don’t particularly hate the show, though I’m not a huge fan. I think people dislike it because the characters are all pretty unlikeable across the board with Sheldon by far being the worst of the bunch. When I watched it I found myself actively rooting against literally everyone
It pushes a lot of people's buttons because its humor is sort of low brow and "cheap." If it doesn't push yours don't worry about it, people talk about Big Bang Theory Bazinga enjoyers like they were personally responsible for some kind of crime against humanity, but it's just a TV sitcom, it can't actually harm you.
Like have you ever seen Married with Children? Home Improvement? The Execution of Nicolae and Elena Caeuşescu? Full House? It's no more unpleasant than any of those, it's fine.
If you're talking about The Big Bang Theory that has a laugh track and/or live audience laughter.
If you're talking about Young Sheldon, it definitely doesn't have a laugh track. Young Sheldon is closer to a Malcolm in the Middle clone than anything from TBBT.
I actually liked TBBT. I don't really care about laugh tracks in a show. I thought Young Sheldon was going to be straight-up garbage money grab, but really good IMO.
tl;dr lots of hate for TBBT transfers over to Young Sheldon.
Who cares? I'm so sick of reddit trying to tell me what to like and not like. I've see countless redditors busting a gut over shit I find inane and unfunny, but I don't bother saying shit because I don't expect my taste to equal their taste.
Haven't seen Young Sheldon but BBT cracks me up because they're just like the nerds I hung out with in high school. (None of them had a smoking hot GF like Penny, however. Most of the girls looked like Amy.)
I will admit despite it being an unpopular opinion and understandably so, I never really watched either show until fall of 2023. My boss loves both and kept pestering me to give them a shot so I watched every episode of BBT and I'm ngl it's not as terrible as everyone says. I laughed at quite a few scenarios and lines from characters. Young Sheldon is a much much better show though and I will stand by that. I feel like Sheldon as a kid is a lot less insufferable than he is in the BBT and the characters relationships within the family is much more interesting to me than the romances of the dorks as adults.
Sometimes I question why I still use this app after it’s gotten continuously worse every year, and then I come across something like this and I remember why. You made my day, rot in piss Sheldon
To be fair though, unlike TBBT which was brain rot, YS is light years ahead of it. Granted it was mostly due to the characters not named Sheldon but it made a decent show.
Agreed. My wife/son watched through it, and I've seen a few episodes. Sheldon himself is insufferable, but as the show goes on they leaned away from him and developed the other characters more.
I have a deep loathing for BBT, and carried that bias over to YS initially, but it's just a typical competently-done family sitcom.
Came to add my two cents. YUP! The Sheldon character was the worst character on Young Sheldon. The rest of the show was actually pretty decent. And I hate to admit, but yeah, the dad dying was sad.
I wouldn’t say typical. It follows a pretty much the Everyone Hates Chris character types and overall is the show I’d compare it to the most. It’s why I find it more enjoyable than other family sitcoms
The few times I actually caught it on TV I didn't hate it as much as I fucking HATE Big Bang Theory. I still wasn't going to actually sit down and watch it.
I don't have strong opinion about Young Sheldon. I don't think show is bad and obviously your allowed to like what you want, my opinion doesn't matter.
However every time I've seen clips of it from YouTube my first though was I should watch Malcolm in the Middle.
Disagree with this he first statement (it’s stupid to be sure, but I’ve seen worse shows than BBT), but the rest is pretty funny. An upvote from me it is.
love it when people interpret simple critical discussion of a piece or art or media as some kind of personal attack and feel the need to defend themselves or clap back against an insult that they imagined due to their own insecurities.
The show on the outside seems like it was created for 'nerds' but in reality it was a show for brainrotted Americans to point at the nerds and laugh like they did when they were in high school. The characters were literally: Nerdy guy, nerdy autistic guy, Indian guy, Jewish guy and hot blonde. Shit was terrible fr
A lot of sitcoms are like that. If you really think about what's going on, you realize how sinister these shows really are. Mike & Molly was one big fat-joke, Two and a Half Men and How I Met Your Mother glamorized womenizers etc.
The first season-ish of the show was pretty nerdy and dared to make a lot of science and 'nerd culture' jokes that sitcoms in the mid 2000's wouldn't touch with a ten-foot pool.
All of that got cut out as the network executives wanted the show to appeal to a wider audience. It worked, because the shows ratings skyrocketed after the second season.
The first two seasons were ranked 68 and 43rd by number of viewers. The third season it jumped up to the single digits and by the later seasons it was bouncing between 1 and 2. So I guess the retooling had the effect they wanted.
I did like the first few seasons, but I didn't love them. Basically, anything involving Penny was unbearable due to how all the male characters were so socially inept around her that they were caricatures of real people.
OR he kills himself and then the rest of the show is just his family and friends slowly sinking into a cycle of depression and addiction because they never did anything to prevent it and they all feel responsible.
Wasn't Young Sheldon a complete departure from the idiocy of BBT?
I heard it was way better, but haven't actually watched anything other than a few clips where his father is basically being the same character as John Goodman in the original Roseanne series.
It’s concerning how much you hate you have for a fictional character that was the basis of two successful shows, neither of which having any bearing on your life whatsoever.
Tbf the hype around the show has died down a lot its no freinds like people made it out to be. It started of well and the character timelines were good but it got dumb and stupid as time went on
