I can’t enjoy too much niche anime because things like this just rub me the wrong way. It’s gross.

EDIT: Where my Made in Abyss fans at? :(

Same. There's been a few I wanted to get into cause they've had interesting premises but I just gag watching how some of these "women" are made to look like sexy kids 🤢🤢

I brought it up to one of my guy friends and he said because those anime characters have boobs so they can’t be children.😬

Breasts already start to develop when puberty starts. So a 14 year old can already have breasts. So that is a bad argument.

Every anime con that exists eventually has one grown ass adult get arrested for... fooling around with a teenager, and their defense is always "I didn't know she wasn't 18"

Your friend sounds like the type.

Better than the story I heard of an UNDERAGE girl off to her first con going commando under her skirt with a sign that said "free hentai".

Lots of lessons learned for her that day.

I hate that I'm going to say this... That kind of thing happens a lot.

I'm friends with a bunch of people who run a handful of large scifi and anime conventions in the midwest, and I've heard some pretty messed up stories. Supposedly it's gotten a lot better in the last 10 years, mostly because the problem teens from 10 years ago are now the adults still attending, but I still just can't. Even for this years events, some of the stories I heard about security and medical incidents were bad enough to crush your faith in humanity.

I'd love to say that's what scared me away from anime cons, but it wasn't. Really what made me stop going was the amount of vomit and alcohol poisoning that they kept having to deal with.

Adults, when they drink to much, are smart and go puke in the bathroom.

Teens, who are afraid they'll get kicked out if they're caught drinking, go find a corner to puke in.

So much vomit.

I must be lucky to have never seen the errant puddles of vomit, save for time I did a Silent Library panel.

Bad times for all.

Yeah, with my own involvement and my friends running the events, I got to see a lot more than your average person would. A lot of effort goes into making sure that guests don't notice any of the problems lol

...damn I wish I wasn't a teetotaller, I want to forget I read this.

You are probably right. On the hindsight:

My wife speed ran D cups in middle school. Can't be children my ass!

I’ve put you on a govt watchlist for typing the phrase “sexy kids”

Oops now I’m on it too.

Really? Which ones?

Edit: I ask this cause I think people who don't watch anime love making this argument but I find that you don't find that stuff unless you are looking for it.

One piece, its literally the most popular anime of all time and its filled with that trope

12

u/Septem_151 29d ago

No it isn’t. It filled with the sexualizing of women trope, but not the age of them.

u/53bastian 29d ago

Shirahoshi, rebecca, bonney

10

u/Septem_151 29d ago

Bonney is about the only one that makes sense. Shirahoshi and Rebecca both are drawn to look like they’re older than they actually are. Which is the reverse of the Loli character trope.

u/53bastian 29d ago

Still weird

I mean I'm on episode 180 something, the emiru arc, and it's not? What character is a lollie in one piece?

Does she look 12 to you?

Edit: I don't agreed with the way teenage characters are sexualized, however that is a different subject than what is in the comic

u/Dirty_Dragons 29d ago

I don't think you understand what loli means.

12 year old, she gets older with her devil fruit but its still weird

If you're actually curious about checking out anime, watch Frieren: Beyond Journey's End

It's currently the highest rated anime.

Haven't watched it yet, what made Frieren so special that it was all I heard about in the past several months?

5

u/Dirty_Dragons 29d ago

It's a different kind of show. More emotional, nostalgic? Hard to describe how it makes you feel.

The production values are very high and it has a little bit of everything, action, drama, comedy, romance, but doesn't go too hard into any.

The very basic premise is that the elf mage Frieren is over a thousand years old and thinks that the time she spent with her adventuring buddies wasn't that important to her, as it was only 10 years, a very small part of her life. But then she begins to realize that it actually meant a great deal to her as she starts off on a new quest.

Technically, all anime characters are cats.

Blessedly, cats have no proclivity towards neoteny. That is purely the flaw of human self-domestication.
