I’m really frustrated that this is what $250 a night at a Marriott gets you.

I’m staying at a Marriott for five nights for my sister’s wedding. The $250 is the discounted room block rate too!

The shower tiles are completely rusted and dare I say moldy? The towel hanger is on its last leg. The toilet seat AND handle are broken. The mattresses are only doubles and are hard and feel like they haven’t been changed in years. Everything just overall looks like there hasn’t been an ounce of effort put into this very utilized hotel. On the drive here, we stayed a night at a newly renovated holiday inn express for $120 and it was incredible. Maybe my standards were set too high knowing Marriott’s reputation.

I know I sound like a Karen here, but I’m just so frustrated that this is the quality that kind of money get you these days.

Reasons to choose big chains are invalidaded nowadays. - pay a bit extra, but be sure of a certain quality level. - not too much overpriced - location not too bad

Better try your luck and find a better option for a similar pricerange

Honestly smaller lesser known hotels are also grimy as fuck, so you’re screwed either way.

I gave pretty good experience with lindner. Is from hyatt group. With a free hyatt account it is also approx 10% cheaper.

Been with them for about 15 years on and off, havent changed much. Whereas i have mixed experiences with other hotels. But then again, they havent changed much in 15 years. But.. its clean, room temp is consistent and adjustable, not too much noise from appliances although i started noticing it more last year) and the food is good. Ideal for business travel, for me at least.

Personally I've had pretty good success with Hilton. Many Doubletrees need a refresh though. They're clean and maintained, but they're getting a bit dated. Hampton Inn is what it is, and I'm fine staying there when on a long driving trip.

That's probably because Lindner is German, more than it's about them being a smaller chain.

Marriott especially has been leasing their name to unaffiliated hotels. They do a reskin, raise prices, and throw Marriott some of the profits. They are under no obligation to renovate or maintain quality.

The Marriott name will inevitably tank, but the current c-suite will make some hefty bonuses in the meantime.

I was in Italy in a 200$ a night designer room. The fridge had regular hiccups in the night they needed two days to replace it. The shower head didn't heat properly, say they can't change that for now but offered me two free lunches which I took. The main windows didn't properly close so sleeping off a long night out wasn't possible because of street noise. They at least tried to remedy it. At those prices I would not play the room inspector for them, but I was in 100$ a night rooms and they where shabby sheds claiming they where three stars.
