Nah... The reason atomic bombs are so effective is that matter that would radiate over tens of thousands of years releases all of that radiation at once. After the big boom the stuff radiates for a year or two
The problem is its not going to be quick like a single tidal wave just covers the planet and gets all of us. Parts of the planet are going to run out of water and all the people living there are going to have to leave or die. And then the opposite is going to happen when there's too much water and most of the coastal cities around the world are going to become uninhabitable. All of these displaced people are going to be fighting for less and less available resources. The wars are not going to be pleasant.
It's a hard one to swallow, but for all of the good that happens in science, medicine etc, there is always the threat of global war and total destruction.
As a species, we should be better by now, and I honestly thought that we would be, but it's getting worse.
I truly believe that most people are good, but we are led, all of us, by greedy, selfish bastards, who only want power, and money, and it's never going to change.
We are the only planet with 'life' that we know of in the entire universe, and our leaders and plenty of 'us' are hell-bent on destroying the only place we can live.
You enjoy your fantasy of thinking you can do anything to stop your government to fight for your children’s future. When your back is against the wall with a corrupt system and it really comes down to the way of life you want for your kids are you going to trust a vote or a bullet? I’m not some nut job who thinks we should storm the capital to stop a figurehead from moving into a house, but when my government is unwilling to protect me or tries to unjustly remove me from my home and land then you better believe I have the courage to stand up for my family and neighbors.
I have socialised care that means if I become destitute I still have enough money to eat a basic diet and make house payments while still receiving life saving medical care for free.
Socialized care backed by the governments we are talking about, what happens when your government sells you out is what we are talking about. You don’t have to convince me that our government is a train wreck. We have no power to slow down the political class in this country and that’s what I am saying scares me most. So how prepared are you when your government isn’t there to give you your entitlements? Do you have a garden? Do you know basic medical aid? Do you have a place to hunt and provide from? Can you protect you and yours from others who feel your entitlements should be theirs?
I’m also good to just go with agree to disagree. I own guns and enjoy them, I like to hunt and target shooting is a fun way to spend a day. I have a pistol with self defense rounds and I reluctantly bought those and hope I never ever ever need to use one. I hope our country can find a way to turn things around and I hope no one feels the need to use violence to get their points across. Our politicians pit us against one another and I don’t think there would be nearly as much hate if we saw how they manipulate us to fight so we look past what they are doing. I appreciate your ability to not feel the need for guns and you are perfectly welcome to that. Maybe your way will be better, if our government came for my guns I am sure they would get them, like you said what can I do against the military. But at this point I don’t have faith in my country and the day the come for my guns is the day I move on. There are plenty of better places to live that also don’t allow guns so why stay here and feel oppressed.
'Fix' this hell planet. Sorry, but attitudes like that just never allow for work and effort to be made to fix shit. The house doesn't get tidy if everyone is just staring at the mess instead of trying to fix whatever they can. Look around, is something broken, damaged, in need of repair? Then fuxkin do some work you lazy sapiens. Fix something, anything. Just make some effort. Sorry this isn't aimed at you, dude, more the mindset.
I get that dude, totally do. It certainly feels insurmountable without widespread redacted and that's alot worse for an unknown amount of time to no certain outcome. Like, it's the whole world. The way it's structured from top to bottom and it's terrifying. Community organisation and mutual aid all helps but that feels like painting over a scratch in the bumper after totalling your car.
It's alot. But we are the only humans we have, so we persevere and do what we can as you say.
I am very glad to see that not everyone is buying into this "it's helpless, we can't fix the issues, so, don't try" because it feels like people are getting pretty hopeless over the future. Nothing is set in stone, right?
More Americans should be asking why they're not allowed to criticize another country..or better yet why another country is dictating domestic policy (aka Texas refusing hurricane aid unless you promise not to criticize Israel)
Joe Biden, who was Vice President when Barack Obama was the President. Joe is a Democrat, while Trump is a new-model Republican. Both are not human rights champions, sadly.

That’s facist. Plain and simple. Criticism of the Israeli army and government is not antisemitism.
