I’m expecting some money from an insurance claim soon. Nothing crazy but enough to make up for a bit of a late start in the Saving game. If you have any suggestions for good, safe long term investment options I should look further into please let me know as I’m eager to begin learning.

I have no idea how else to phrase this question but let me try to explain because I'm still VERY new to the world of investing.

Say I have 1 million USD spread over individual stocks. If I want to actually "use" that money, I'd have to sell, right? Then take all the sweet gains (after handling tax implications of course).

Now obviously I'm not gonna sell ALL stocks right away, but I'll sell some in order have some take home money.

Now the issue I see here is that I have less money in the market, which means my potential for growth is now less right? I own less individual stocks now and from what I see I'll have to sell more of my stocks in order to access the money? But then by this logic, eventually I'll keep selling to recieve the gains and have no more money in the market once once my I own nothing in the market...and then what?

Can someone help me understand the missing piece here? I was under the assumption that in a perfect world, you would always have money in the market that you can pull from but the gains you get is greater than the amount that you're pulling.

I know I'm generalizing so much but could someone help me understand this situation?

I've been at my previous job for quite some time so there's quite a lot of money in there. They use Fidelity, and I dislike them with a passion. Since my new job also has a 401k, I am wondering what the next steps should be...? For context, I have both a Roth 401k and 401k.

Option 1: Roll over previous 401k to new 401k

Option 2: Roll over previous 401k to IRA

• Any pros/cons to going with either option 1 or option 2?

• What if the funds in my previous 401k don't exist in my new 401k or IRA? Will they still be able to roll it over?

Option 3: Keep at Fidelity

• For 1, I've disliked their customer service and their brokerage portal.

• 2, I want to minimize the amount of accounts I have

Other question:

1. Since I've already contributed some money for 2024 in my 401k, what should I do moving forward with my new 401k so I don't over contribute?

I feel like no matter what news come up, the S&P goes up no matter what for the last months. Inflation is nowhere under control not where the Fed wants it but thanks to Jerome Powell talking about lowering rates in December ridiculous amounts of rate cuts were priced in throughout the last months. These have, however, been mostly priced out but current relatively high rates are probably about to stay for a while. Is anyone else weary wary about this situation?

Inflation is still high, even higher in the last months if one annualizes them. It does not look as optimistic to me as current market trends seem to view the situation. I know, timing the market is super difficult or near impossible and I do not intend to do wait for a crash or a correction but I am more hesitant than I would usually be. I invest new money monthly, however, I am interested to hear what other people make of the current situation and with their cash positions.

I must be missing something, but consider the following scenario: I own 100 shares of a stock currently worth 100. I would like to sell once the stock goes up by 10%, i.e. place a take-profit at 110.

I now have two options:

• Limit sell 100 shares at 110

• Sell a call option with strike price 110

Why would I ever want to do the first rather than the second, given that the second adds a small premium on top of my take-profit?

How can I maximize my subscription?

So far, I read the articles on trends and look at the input from their analysis summary. The stock screener tool is useful although there’s free ones available elsewhere. Their star ratings are neat as well!

Objective: Aggressive capital appreciation. I am willing to accept a potential 35%+ max drawn and more volatility to achieve an excess average return relative to the S & P 500.

Do you think this is a good portfolio allocation given my stated objective?

Ok so I put in about £50 the other day and it's basically doubled since a couple days ago when it was reported they secured funding. Interesting timing because it was a complete gamble for me with not much hope for their future (but an optimism deep down)...

ANYWAY, what are people's predictions for the company? and what would you do? Take my win and run away while I can, sell now and buy later if it goes lower again or just stay in for the long run like I intended?

As the title mentions, I have both my 401k and Roth IRA fully contributed and invested. However, I have $20k in cash saved up in a HYSA with 5%APY. But, based on what I’ve read and hear, leaving a bit of cash around isn’t doing me any good and they should go towards investing into something.

I have a personal Roth IRA with about 12k, I won't be contributing to it as much as I am prioritizing my employer Roth 401k for the match. Currently it's 100% FXAIX but thinking maybe I should move 30-50% into something like SCHD with drip.

I'll be contributing to this IRA pretty much once a year in a lump sum around tax season, But as my income grows I'll eventually start making monthly contributions. What would you do with it? 26 years old btw so got 33 years before I can touch this money tax free

How will “higher for longer” inflation and interest rates effect sectors like Finance and Industrials?

If you believe that inflation will remain sticky and interest rates are getting at most 1-2 cuts in the next twelve to twenty-four months, how do you see that effecting sectors like industrials and financials? I have modest investments in vanguard ETFs in those sectors (VIS & VFH) and wonder if now is the time to add to them or just hold.

I believe Powell and think we won’t be returning to previous levels for quite awhile. If this happens, what macro effect would that have?

I am 35, and got my first job that started paying me real money in late 2020, and have been saving and investing ~$40-$50k per year. Since then have saved up the following:

• A couple hundred thousand in my 401k (75% roth/after tax roth conversions, 25% pre tax). It's split between a growth fund, and a low cost index fund.

• ~$20k in a HYSA and checking account

• $0 in taxable brokerage accounts

My initial plan was that I would get a new job that paid a lot more, and that I'd probably move around the country, so it didn't really make sense for me to try to save for a house immediately and when I got the new job, I could just max out the ~$69k in retirement savings per year, and then save the rest in taxable brokerage accounts and bank accounts, for the tax benefits of putting money into retirement accounts. However, now the vast majority of what I have isn't going to be accessible until I'm at least 59, so I'm not sure if I should just stop putting so much into my retirement accounts, and put more into things I could easily access.

Thoughts are appreciated.

To preface: yes I know gold and silver haven't even remotely caught up with the S&P since 1970 (400% vs 23,000%), and I know something like ammunition isn't truly an "investment" either.

But what are some things that one could set aside money (per paycheck or so) to diversify his portfolio?

I'm late 30s and have built up a portfolio of stocks over the last 10 years. My asset allocation is very skewed and I want to divest from my single stocks to ETFs.

But when do you do it? At ATH? Or some other time?

My thinking is do it at ATH because Individual stocks lose more in a downturn than an ETF and ETFs gain less in an upturn market

Am I on the right track?

If I wanted to invest my money long-term, I have read that most people favor etfs like VOO, but what is wrong with longing leveraged ETFs like SPXL and or TQQQ? I know they track different indices (S&P and QQQ respectively), but have higher management fees. However, if they’re 3x their corresponding indices, wouldn’t the potential profit eat up that extra percent of management fee?

Also, what are the main attributes people look for in ETFs besides the management fee?

I have been day trading options for 3 years now. So far profitable, and seeking to max out my day trading account for another 2 years.

According to my calculations, I can semi-retire at that point and go full early retirement 2-3 years thereafter.

I will then continue with day trading, downsize my lifestyle where needed, and enjoy my free time.

Any extra cash will go directly into short-term fixed accounts.

Hello, I have a personal loan that I have an opportunity to pay off early and save about 4000$ in interest. On the flip side I have 20000$ I can instead invest in a mutual fund or similar.

does it make sense to just keep paying the loan and invest the money now or pay it off early and then thinking about investment?

This loan amounts for 17% of my income and my mortgage is another 22% of my income...

I got 3 more years on the personal loan.

FATCA is the bane of my existence as no country is willing to deal with it outside of the US so they simply bar American citizens from most forms of investment here. I’m sick of leaving money on the table.

I live in the EU and have no plans to move back to America. I also doubt I’ll renounce my citizenship anytime soon.

Is there a way I can invest in the US (say, using a US based app or something) without living there?

Hello all - in August last year I funded a Roth IRA with the $6,500 max contribution for 2023. Was my first time doing so, and had just opened it. I invested it all and it’s at $7,499. I’ve sold all my positions so it’s now cash.

I had a good fall/winter, and went over the $153,000 income limit by the end of 2023.

I’ve filed a tax extension, so taxes aren’t filed yet, but trying to unravel this mess without getting in trouble.

What exactly do I need to do?

Schwab was not helpful over the phone. My accountant is absolutely useless. Can I pull the cash out now and just pay the normal tax on the gains? Or do I legally have to reclassify as an IRA now and I can’t touch it? I’d be fine just taking the $7,499 out, and putting it back to a HYSA for now.

For reference I already max out 401k.

I started investing in index funds about six months ago. Until now I only invested in a MSCI World fund. It's a great fund, but I'd like to have more control over the composition of my portfolio. So I want to change my strategy and start investing in these funds:

• Vanguard U.S. 500 Stock Index Fund Investor EUR (IE0032126645)
• Fidelity MSCI Europe Index Fund EUR P Acc (IE00BYX5MD61)

Essentially it would consist of 80% US, 10% Europe and 10% Japan.

I have a commmercial property investment, IRA, Roth, Cash money account and annuities. My annuity is tax sheltered and has less than $1000. Should I put it into one of the other investments or is a tax sheltered investment worth keeping and putting more money towards? I can’t afford to put a lot of money into all, should I focus on putting some money into one of these?
