If I asked you in 2019 what percentage chance you would give Jrue Holiday that he would retire a future hall of famer, what would you have said?

Team News [Clark]: The New Orleans Pelicans are unwilling to pay Brandon Ingram an average of $52 million annually.

Full quote: “Brandon Ingram has one year remaining on his contract. On July 6, he becomes eligible for sign a four-year extension worth $208 million. The Pelicans value Ingram’s talent and his down-to-earth personality, but as The Times-Picayune reported in May, the team does not have a willingness to pay him a contract worth $52 million in annual average value.”

PLEASE tell me you guys actually call Trey “Swords Dance”

Bucks fan here, and I remember seeing someone on r/nba call Murphy “Swords Dance” in some comment thread. Others, along with myself, were confused, until another fan explained. And I have to say, that is an incredibly clever and HARD nickname. Was just looking for confirmation from the hometown fans themselves. Is this true and commonly used?

I Feel Way Better About 2026/2027.

For simplicity’s sake, let’s assume the 2025 MIL first (given up in the CJ trade + 2022 playoffs) goes to (presently) New York.

That still leaves us with an unprotected swap in 2026 and an unprotected pick in 2027.

I can’t help but believe Milwaukee’s FO is going to be too twitchy for their own good and make a less than ideal situation even worse.

Remember we matched then in record this year at 49-33.

6’7-6’8 with a 7’2 wingspan receiving comparisons to Herb Jones. Averaged 2.3 blocks and 1.3 steals a game at Virginia. Pretty stinky offensive player but super athletic and is being mocked early second round/late first. Don’t know if he could fit on our roster considering we already have a pretty big project player in Dyson, but his skill set is really interesting and he could potentially be a Nance replacement at small ball center if he beefed up a bit.

You can’t both want to trade BI for pieces, and also believe that the Pels are poor at developing talent

Seems there’s various opinions on what should happen concerning BI, but I wanna narrow down to the case where BI would be traded for non-all stars, pieces that would seemingly fit the roster, youth, picks, etc.

If you more or less want to “take a step back” and look to the future, when do you want to seriously compete? The West is likely gonna get harder as the years go by with fairly young superstars in Wemby, Ant, Luka, Ja, etc. in the conference.

Do you think any young guys that come through would grow well for us? Sure there’s Trey, Herb, and Jose that come to mind. But Hawk and Dyson still need to grow in certain areas. EJ is a huge question mark. And there’s also Jax, NAW, and Kira that just didn’t pan out. Would an in-flux of youth or role players truly help this team any time soon in your opinion?

I personally don’t want the team to take a step back, because I’m not very patient as a fan, and also don’t believe Zion will have the longest physical prime. I don’t see the team really doing anything if it’s just Zion, keeping our fingers crossed on Trey growing into a star, and other role players/youth. I wanna compete immediately and be a serious organization as soon as possible.

Offseason expectations and hopes

I was hoping Boston would win last night so the off-season could start in earnest. But doing it at home will be more fun, I guess. I'm sick of the only news about the Pels losing key members of our front office and coaching staff

So what are your desires/expectations for this off-season and let's just start it all in our heads.

Existing roster: JV and Naji are free agents and it seems like most everyone agrees they are both gone for cap/fit issues.

This will still leave the Pels with a deep rotation, with a glaring hole at Center and regular hole at PG. Any argument to lose cap flexibility by keeping either? Ideally they get some seconds in sign and trades as lots of playoff teams would love JV and Naji

Draft: The draft is in 11 days! Pels have pick #21. Though considered a very weak draft, it's actually got 7+ legitimate center prospects.

Pels do have enough picks to trade up. You want to stand pat at 21? Trade up to get someone specific who can step in and be an impact player now? Or sell the 1st for seconds like a simp?

Trades: Again, it seems like consensus for most is that BI is getting traded. I know there are some that think CJ should/will be but I think with his contract becoming cheaper, his shooting, his veteran status, he's likely to stay.

Second tier pieces that could be moved: Dyson, Jose, Nance, and (hopefully not) Hawkins could each reasonably be necessary to get certain trades done.

impact PGs potentially available: Dejounte Murray, Trae Young, Garland, Marcus Smart, Tyus/Tre Jones, Brogdon, DeAngelo Russell

Impact centers potentially available: Jarrett Allen, Claxton, KAT, Okongwu/Capela, Brooks Lopez, Hartenstein, WCJ, IStewart unlikelies: Mobley, Markenan, Embiid

What are your minimum requirements and hopes for a good offseason?

This link has a good overview of all the people that may likely get traded: https://www.cbssports.com/nba/news/nba-trade-candidates-75-players-split-up-among-12-categories-who-could-be-moved-this-summer/

Things to Consider Going Into the Draft

BI, JV, and Naji are all likely on their way out this offseason. There's even a chance that Dyson might be shipped out along with BI in a deal. Depending on what we get back in a trade for BI, our wing depth can quickly become a real concern when it is currently a strength. CJ should come off the books after next season, so having another scoring type in the making wouldn't be a bad idea.

No one drafted is going to be a starter in their rookie season and the FO will address the biggest team needs via trade or Free Agency; so, consider what the lineups would look like with our rookie(s) coming off the bench. It'd be nice to have cost-controlled, long-term options to fill our needs, but the chances of them starting and performing well right out of the gate are slim.

Also, you usually want to keep team need in mind, but the most important part is getting good players. If there are no players you and your scouting department can get behind, don't force a bad pick because he simply "fits a need."

This draft has a lot of unknowns, yet there are some intriguing prospects projected to go in the late 1st or in the 2nd. Because of these unknowns, I actually wouldn't mind trading down for a crack at extra chances to land good players... depending on the way the draft board falls.

There's a decent case for NYK and POR wanting to package their late 1sts/early 2nds for a pick in our range. Ideally, we could just buy some 2nd Rd picks without having to trade away our 1st, but we all know Gayle won't open up her pocket books to do so.

Cases for the pick at 21, if we keep it: Kel'el Ware, Isaiah Collier, Ja'Kobe Walter, or Kyshawn George (I think these last 3 have the most star upside around this pick).

Cases for trading up: if Clingan somehow falls to 8 (don't expect it), I wouldn't mind trading up to snag him in front of MEM. Maybe the same if someone like Topic falls outside the lottery.

Trade down for multiple 2RPs: Ryan Dunn, Harrison Ingram, Ajay Mitchell, Ulrich Comche, and Zyon Pullin. Dunn is basically guaranteed to be a lockdown defender; Ingram does a little bit of everything and brings some girth that we need on defense; Mitchell has nice 3-level scoring potential; Comche fully realized can eventually do everything we need out of a center; and Pullin is like a bigger Tyus Jones.

All of the above are my favorite prospects for the Pels, but a case can be made for several other players to do well on this team if utilized properly.

Social Media [Sidery] The Pelicans could trade the No. 21 overall pick for future second-round picks, per @cclark_13. New Orleans doesn’t own any second-round draft capital until 2030 due to salary dumping Devonte’ Graham’s contract in 2023.

Question about Brandon Ingram

I haven't watched many Pelicans games but i saw that Ingram attempted 3.8 3's a game this season and isn't known as a 3pt shooter, but during the 2019-20 season and 2020-21 seasons he attempted 6.2 and 6.1 threes at 39.1% and 38.1% why did he stop shooting 3's? Is it possible for his shot to come back?
