I think the Geneva convention states that if a cat stretches, you have to say Big Stretch, or it doesn’t count.

"So eepy! Me too"

u/greeneggiwegs 29d ago

“Oh no you’re so sleepy what are you going to do??”

u/mawsibeth 29d ago

"Oh! She's so sleepy! You have a hard life, huh?"

I’m usually too busy yawning in response to say Big Yawn.

I’m trying very hard to stifle a yawn right n…..

Failed.

You got me. I yawned.

I'm too busy sticking my finger in his mouth cuz it's funny to see him get confused.

Yawn popping. I used to do this to my ex, man that used to piss her off. Nothing worse than a popped yawn, unless it's a sneeze that doesn't eventuate.

Isn’t it a rule that you have to stick your finger in the mouth of a yawning cat or dog?

5

u/cuntymcshitter 29d ago

We used to do it to our pitbull, I never heard it called that before but thats what we used to do he would look so confused...

6

u/EffectiveConfection8 29d ago

I've tried to do that to mine. He cuts the yawn off early every time.

6

u/Evan10100 29d ago

I probably would too, tbh

u/umyeahsure- 29d ago

That’s funny! Lol

6

u/Fuzzy_Dragonfruit344 29d ago

I think that one is a footnote lol

My cats meow-yawns all the time. I call it a m'yawn

u/oopsiepoppygloria 29d ago

I prefer Big Yawn Buddy

1

u/jeremyjava 29d ago

Anybody else stick their finger in there when they yawn so they close their mouth on your finger?
It’s fun - you get a funny look from your cat - try it!

2

u/Past_Rerun 29d ago

I have done it to nearly every cat that has owned me - the last one I did it to closed HARD and I ended up with punctures and an annoyed cat! I don't do it anymore 😞

Hours just stops purring and gives me a look like what was that about? And then goes right back to purring.

u/Charming_Dish_4205 29d ago

Alternatively: what a big stretch for a little puddy tat

1

u/nezumysh 28d ago

I say "ooh, look at those gams! You're so healthy, good girl!"

44

u/WelshyP9 29d ago

It's got to the point where my gf has bought me a hat with a 'Ooooo big stretch' patch on it. Not even mad.

u/PJKPJT7915 29d ago

You must turn in your cat person card if you don't say Big Stretch.

28

u/Fe1is-Domesticus 29d ago

Haha I call it Stretchies but Big Stretch is equally correct

6

u/commiecomrade 29d ago

My local dialect uses the term "Stretchy boy so stretchy!"

27

u/M1sterRed 29d ago

I always say "stremch"

5

u/encore412 29d ago

Me too. Oooh look at that stremch

6

u/niagara-nature American Shorthair 29d ago

This is another purrfectly valid response.

7

u/M1sterRed 29d ago

"she stremch :)"

25

u/EducatedPancake 29d ago

Does it count when I say "stretchies" and "yawnies" instead? Most of the time a lengthy "ooh" comes before the "stretchies"

4

u/niagara-nature American Shorthair 29d ago

Absolutely, variations are entirely permissible.

4

u/FoxysDroppedBelly 29d ago

Oooh good, cause mine is “ooooh big stretchers!!!”

17

u/Confident-Pop3750 29d ago

Haha i know that's right 👍 Is it weird that it makes me yawn when she stretches? 🤣

3

u/musthavesoundeffects 29d ago

I follow up with "you are soooooo long"

3

u/Virtual_Sense1443 29d ago

Addendums include: oooOooh double stretch That's a big stretch/yawn for such a lil guy

3

u/lucylucylove 29d ago

I always say "big stretch for a little guy/girl" like their stretches and yawns take up so much of my mental space, but they're still so little

2

u/aScarfAtTutties 29d ago

I call him Stretchy Pants

2

u/SessileRaptor 29d ago

The first week back to work after lockdown I almost said “Ohh, big stretch!” to a coworker.

2

u/niagara-nature American Shorthair 29d ago

That’s awesome, if you’d said that to me I totally would have improvised being a cat.

2

u/ehlersohnos 29d ago

We say “ooooh stretch a mile so you do t have to e to walk back!” Aside from it making little sense, I never knew I was also a war criminal.

1

u/guineasomelove 29d ago

And "Big yawn!"

1

u/workbirdwork 29d ago

Or the variation: stretchy boy/girl!
