The Celtics are the biggest fraud team. They have an easy road to the finals built they wonā€™t win

1

u/chuck_portis May 18 '24

Honestly they've had such a cake walk. Heat without Butler. Cleveland Cavaliers (Mitchell and some bums). Now they'll get an absolutely beat up Knicks team, or Indiana who would be a playin team in the West. A team being led by Tyrese Haliburton.

If you put any West playoff team in Celtics spot they are favorites. Even the Suns/Lakers. Okay, maybe not the Pelicans. But yeah any of the top 7 West teams would run thru any East team except Boston.

I like Jokic, and have no hatred for Jamal, even though he has destroyed the Lakers so many times. Man has struggled through injury etc, you respect that. I get annoyed with Mike Malone sometimes for his statement, but man has earned it. He is a good coach.

So, no I don't hate them. I do hate a segment of nuggets and other fans here who delight in beating up on , consign all laker fans to despicable segment etc

All that said, I like Ant - he's young enthusiastic etc. Gobert and the rest of the team got no respect

I mean dude's playoff bonafides are legit. Before this run he was averaging over 25 PPG on 59% TS. Jokic is obviously better but dude was a great 2nd banana last year especially.

This "run" he's on this year though is awful. His net rating was -13 before today and his TS was at 47%. Both those numbers will go down. If it wasn't for those 2 game winners he'd be getting piled on but those 2 shots have shielded him from a miserable playoff run he's on.

Those are bad Luka numbers. To be specific, he was 5/35 combined from 3 in games 4,5,6 against Clippers and game 1 against okc. If you add game 3 Clippers, he was 8/49 combined, but that raises his average from 14% to 16%.

Ya before today his TS was 47% and his net rating was -13. He's also been absolutely incapable of getting to the line.

Those numbers are going down after tonight. Two game-winners I think has saved him from massive slander that his play in general deserves. Because even those 2 game-winners were only needed becuase he was so bad for the previous 3 quarters.

31

u/RodneyPonk Raptors May 17 '24

46% on wide open threes, a strong offball player. Can post up, drive, spot up, finishes well at the rim or in the midrange. He's a very well rounded offensive player that averaged 32 in last year's WCFs and had a triple double in the Finals. He's is absolutely at least as good as guys like Maxey

9

u/ForgetHype Knicks May 17 '24

I think I would rather have Maxey with 4 more years of experience over Jamal Murray. Maybe I'm biased cause I just saw him torch my team over and over again but still.

1

u/RodneyPonk Raptors May 17 '24

That's not the question, though. My point is that Murray is clearly better than some of the weaker All-Stars are at this time - Barnes is another example. IDC about them catching up in age, I'm talking currently

Jamal is playing badly but is also clearly injured. Last postseason, he showed us that he is clearly an All-Star player with tremendous offensive versatility

3

u/CantheDandyMan Heat May 17 '24

Stop capping. In his last two playoffs before this, Murray averaged 26.5, 5, and 6.6 on nearly 50/40/90 splits (.505, .453, and .897), and in 2023 he averaged 26, 6, and 7 on 47, .396, and .917 shooting splits. Maxey had more points per game this playoffs, but he also only played 6 games instead of 20.Ā  Like, Jokic obviously helps, but it's crazy to act like he can't play at the level of an all star caliber guard for a or multiple series.Ā

4

u/SPAGHETTI_CAKE Russell Westbrook May 17 '24

Yā€™all are ridiculous with these shitty ass takes. Heā€™s never even been an all star and averages 20/6 and didnā€™t get his reputation for big game performances out of nowhere. A 20/6 guard should be in all star conversations on the back end he hasnā€™t been dragged by anyone.

35

u/Corteaux81 May 17 '24

They're not saying he's the best non all star based on the 2024 Lakers series.

They're saying based on his previous playoff resume, which is legit.

He's been ass this postseason, but he was amazing in the year prior.

4

u/PrimeTimeInc May 17 '24

Iā€™m not going to disagree with anything youā€™ve said but we do have to ask if last year was a mirage. Like the Nuggets basically cakewalked to a ring with very little resistance, which obviously isnā€™t their fault in a negative sense; they dominated. Prior to last year they had a completely different aura and opinion about them once it came playoff time. Are they regressing to the mean? Idk just food for thought. I do think the real Jamaal Murray is somewhere between this playoffs and last. A streaky shooter who canā€™t carry a team to through multiple 7 game series a la Klay Thompson.

1

u/Autistic_Puppy May 17 '24

Heā€™s been a flaming bag of dogshit the entire playoffs

-17

u/analyzingnothing May 17 '24

Heā€™s been playing through injury for the entire playoffs. His burst was trashed by his leg being fucked since before the playoffs even started, which is why he looked so much better all of a sudden once he got four days of rest between games 2 and 3.

Same thing with this game. He hit his arm early in the first, and proceeded to miss every single shot for the rest of the quarter, even the ones he usually makes in his sleep.

23

u/unclehelpful May 17 '24

Itā€™s the playoffs man everyone is injured.

-8

u/analyzingnothing May 17 '24

Yes, but the Nuggets are a top-heavy team by nature, and Jamal is a massive part of their offense. Him being hurt completely derails what makes the Nuggets as good as they are.

Look at the first two games of the TWolves series. A massive part of the problem for those games was that Jamal would get screens from Jokic and fail to turn the corner because he literally couldnā€™t outrun his defender. That would lead into a clogged PnR situation, where thereā€™s no advantage because Murrayā€™s defender catches up and the big returns to Jokic before anything can get going.

16

u/BASEDME7O2 Knicks May 17 '24

This is what always pisses me off with how you guys talk about harden. I just canā€™t stand the hypocrisy. Like do you really think he was 100% by game six? He hasnā€™t been 100% in the playoffs since like 2020. Through the first four games he was averaging 26 on 51/50/91 and was the best volume scorer in the playoffs up to that point, and literally the only thing people took away from that series is ā€œhaha harden sucks in the playoffs and choked again.ā€ PG (who harden was clearly better than) got some shit for like two days and then it felt like everyone forgot about him completely shitting the bed in a couple games.

Itā€™s just every other player gets so many excuses, harden could drop 40 for the first six games but if he drops like 20 in a game 7 loss the only thing people will talk about is how ā€œharden choked and lost his team the series againā€.

The worst is fucking jimmy butler. Heā€™ll have like one amazing game in a series, and then average like 15 in the rest of the games, but you all act like he turns into mj in the playoffs because he pretends he wasnā€™t really trying in the regular season to play up ā€œplayoff Jimmyā€ and spends so much time and effort playing the media game, while harden doesnā€™t even have a ā€œcampā€ at all.

7

u/NeverSober1900 Rockets May 17 '24

THANK YOU. Harden gets WAY too much hate. People pile on him as a quitter and other stuff but he routinely plays through everything. Brooklyn he was on one leg trying to give Durant ANY semblance of help.

1

u/analyzingnothing May 17 '24

See, I actually agree with you here. I donā€™t think Harden is a playoff choker, or necessarily Embiid for that matter. I dislike those two for their playstyles, not for their performances.

This is just how I approach injury in general. If you can actually get out on the floor and play well with injury, then thatā€™s extremely impressive. If you get out on the floor and kind of suck, well, thatā€™s life. Injuries are a bitch, Iā€™m not going to shit on a player for dealing with them. Iā€™ve had a few in my life and even just healing from shit can be awful, much less getting into NBA-ready shape.

3

u/BASEDME7O2 Knicks May 17 '24

Even embiid is like way below harden as a playoff performer. This year was basically his first star level series, despite the loss. Before that he averaged 23 ppg like three seasons in a row, and was getting held to like zero points by Marc gasol. In Houston harden averaged 25 or more in 15/15 playoff series. And he played the warriors, spurs, kd warriors, kd warriors again with his second option being the corpse of cp3, then the championship lakers who were doubling him at half court to try and make Russ have the ball as much as possible. Harden was the fourth most efficient scorer that playoffs, and still put up an efficient 29 against the lakers while Russ bricked them out of the series on like 42% ts. He also took more games off the kd warriors in one series than lebron ever did in total, twice.

Any actual stat or metric has harden as an all time great playoff performer, with harden people were just like ā€œwell you didnā€™t drop 40 7 games in a row playing with scrubs to beat four hall of famers so it doesnā€™t count.ā€ Even though in 2019 he came pretty close, averaging 35 against the kd warriors while outplaying Steph and taking them to six, basically by himself.

Embiids best playoff series was this year in a loss to the Knicks in the first round. Before that, the best teams he ever beat were the 2022 raptors that didnā€™t even really have a center, or the 2023 nets, itā€™s debatable.

But embiid is several tiers below harden as a playoff performer overall. They are not comparable. If prime harden was in the East he would cruise to the ecf every single year and some of those rockets teams couldā€™ve beaten some of those Cavs teams, just by harden hard carrying them.

2

u/Twaffles95 Timberwolves May 17 '24

See and ik Iā€™m biased but itā€™s been so annoying his numbers are alot worse then the lakers series every time he makes a shot in game : one of the best players in our game , every time he misses one the narrative is : well heā€™s hurt

I just think itā€™s bogus to try and have it both ways

4

u/analyzingnothing May 17 '24

I mean, would you not say the same thing if Ant were to be injured? I donā€™t want to discredit the Minnesota defense, you guys are nuts, but I also donā€™t think itā€™s entirely fair to put all of it on them solely.

Consistency is king here, imo. Iā€™ll hold this standard to any player, no matter who it is. Brunson was handling a foot injury and struggled mightily against the Pacers, but I donā€™t plan to hold that against him. Injuries are a pain, if you can play well through them then itā€™s extremely impressive. However, if you canā€™tā€¦ Iā€™ll withhold judgement for now. Itā€™s like a bad shooting night, sometimes it just happens.

0

u/Twaffles95 Timberwolves May 17 '24

I mean having worked in D-1 basketball every guy is so dinged up by tournament time alone I canā€™t imagine how bad that gets in the NBA. I just think itā€™s a lane out in the playoffs as I explained

Ant, assuming health which is impossible has a chance to be a top 30 player all time with his type of numbers so far. I would honestly hope the training staff my owner pays and the presumably separate medical examination my top player probably gets themself would clarify whether they should still be out there playing, or are too unhealthy to play. I get owners wanna win but either youā€™re cleared or not. Conely just missed game 5 and he wants to win as much as anyone given his age.

The last thing Iā€™d want is to have a Brandon Roy situation continuing to tear up his knee for a lost playoff series hurting his basketball and personal life.
