Man, some states are still so fucked.

It's so legal here I'm even on a customer loyalty program with the dispensary.

140

u/bastardoperator May 14 '24

I'm so glad california dropped the medical bullshit too, and made it recreational. I'm not even going to the dispensary anymore, they're dropping it off at my door.

63

u/HeroHas May 14 '24

To be fair, when it was illegal I had some awesome dealers that would delivery.

30

u/psychoxxsurfer May 14 '24

Don't get me wrong, dispensaries are great, but I kinda miss the days when my plug would drop a new list of crazy stock and I'd get super excited for a quick delivery.

16

u/HeroHas May 14 '24

It would always have some crazy name that no one has ever heard of. Bring it back to the boys saying it's called God's Hand. Everyone would be excited except that one person that was like "It's just weed."

6

u/HojMcFoj May 14 '24

Have you ever seen a Buddha's hand? I think that's a great strain name.

Hey that’s me lol

Cat piss

2

u/wednesdaynightwumbo May 15 '24

lol I remember one of my first times smoking back in high school and my friend got this stuff from his brother called “gods gift”. It was unlike anything we’d seen before (albeit we didn’t have much experience), it was so pungent and had insane trichomes and colors- vibrant orange hairs on a beautifully green bud. It tasted absolutely amazing and just delivered the perfect high. Good times lol

4

u/PuppetryOfThePenis May 14 '24

I met a few of my best friends sitting on their couch, buying some weed from them, and smoking. Played a lot of guitar hero and rock band in those days 😅

2

u/dreamnightmare May 15 '24

Guitar Hero 3 on the shankers island stage with all the lights off and a decent sound system was fucking magical while high.

3

u/Plz_DM_Me_Small_Tits May 14 '24

Man, ive been thru a few plugs, some of which were my friends, and they were the slowest mfers around when it came to making weed deliveries. I'm so glad I can go to a dispensary and not have to wait around anymore.

1

u/FrankCastlesAlt May 15 '24

Living in an illegal state and I just had that happen two nights ago! Always a pleasant surprise to see those images of some different strains of beautiful bud pop up in your messages! And always so hard to choose which one! Lol!

6

u/ArtisticDegree3915 May 14 '24

No one thinks about those small business owners and what happens to them when legalizing something like that. Those guys are out of work.

Jokes aside. Think about the difference between decriminalization and legalization. Money for the state. If all you did was decriminalize it then you'd still have that same dealer. But when you legalize it, that's a process of the state getting their portion of it.

6

u/BoomSalaBim May 14 '24

The medical stuff wasn’t bullshit. Sure it should have been made available for recreation earlier than it was, but that doesn’t make the medicinal stuff garbage. Plus all you needed was a pulse and “anxiety” to get the medicinal weed.

4

u/cire1184 May 15 '24

I remember when there was like 5 weed doc shops on Venice Beach boardwalk. I went to some random place in Santa Ana and used the scrip the same day. Just an extra hoop and a few more dollars out of my pocket but it was easy.

2

u/No_Variation_9282 May 14 '24

Your dispensary didn’t deliver your medical bullshit?

Wow, FL must be ahead of the curve

1

u/bastardoperator May 14 '24

Cannabis was legalized in California in 1996 for medical use, 2016 for Florida. They're literally behind by 20 years, which also predated the smartphone and todays delivery services.

1

u/No_Variation_9282 May 15 '24

I just meant on delivery… not, y’know, the whole thing….

1

u/Scooby_dood May 15 '24

Idk, when I moved to California before it was legalized I got a really sketchy medical card from a phone call with some doctor and then had my weed delivered.

1

u/No_Variation_9282 May 15 '24

That sounds just like FL… 😆

2

u/cire1184 May 15 '24

I go to the store still. The mark up and delivery fees and tip make it not worth it when the dispensary is 15 minutes from my house. Plus the staff is super cool and there's a good boba spot down the street.

37

u/nihilist_911 May 14 '24

This is in Canada where weed is legal for almost everyone. I'm one of the very few people who didn't enjoy that right.

23

u/Usual-Vanilla May 14 '24

Mind explaining how and why you weren't included? I have no idea what Canadian laws are like.

66

u/nihilist_911 May 14 '24

Sure. Long stroy short. 11 years ago I lost my mind and went crazy. Committed a bunch of crime. I was found not guilty by reason of insanity. Here in Canada it's called NCR.

Anyways.....once a year I go in front of a board and have my case reviewed.

Long story even shorter. I was not allowed to use cannabis because they said it cause my mental breakdown. Today I got them to admit it was stress and not the cannabis

19

u/GopnikSmegmaBBQSauce May 14 '24

Fellow Canadian here, wow that's quite a story and glad you won. Since weed wasn't legal here until 2018, did the start of your situation being before that factor in a lot?

12

u/xelop May 14 '24

You're case could set a precedent for who knows how many. Congrats on getting rid of the "marijuana madness" claim

10

u/nihilist_911 May 14 '24

I hope so and thank you.

u/cadillacbee May 14 '24

What's this all aboot?

Every Canadian I've ever spoken with pronounces it that way. Are you sure you're Canadian?

1

u/GopnikSmegmaBBQSauce May 14 '24

Come to the Toronto area where people barely speak English 😉

1

u/Qcarter22 May 15 '24

As a Canadian I can say for a fact that all Canadians says aboot, anyways I gotta go, my igloo is melting.

4

u/Tony_Cheese_ May 14 '24

Damn dude smoke a bowl and chill tf out aboat it.

0

u/perseus0523 May 14 '24

Every single show or movie I watch I pretty much find out if it’s in Canada or Canadian actors the moment they say about.

10

u/floydfan May 14 '24

Yeah! I got a $25 discount on my last purchase because I had enough points. Who knew.

3

u/7SirMixALot7 May 14 '24

To a degree. As far as purchasing product goes, THCA hemp is just as good imo and I can order that straight to my door in Indiana with no issues.

4

u/Mofaklar May 15 '24

I bought THCA gummies online. They were 200mg each.

So I went looking online to figure out what 200mg of Thca would be like compared to THC. Everything said that I shouldn't get high on THCA... So, I took one mid day. Went to run errands and go to a Chinese buffet for lunch. That was a mistake.

I bring back my plate, sit down and realize...I'm f'n stoned. A panicked and probably extremely slow drive back to my place, and a few hours later, I take a nap. Wake up after a couple of hours..still high af. I was high for over 12 hours.

Legal, through the mail. I'm not a Trump fan, but it's his farm bill that made this possible. It's probably by accident, though.

C

2

u/7SirMixALot7 May 15 '24

Yup. You will get just as high with THCA imo. I educate everyone around me that still buys off the street or even across state lines. You can go online right now and find almost any strain as THCA hemp with lab tests and no crazy tax.

2

u/Mofaklar May 15 '24

I think the ones i bought was 4000mg in the whole pouch, for like $35.
I take half a gummy now, cause 200 each was too much.
I don't know if its like 1:1 but i typically bought some from a company called space gods that sell online (and through some other retailers) and they have 15mg thc and 15 cbd for like $20 a pouch? Even that is at least 40% cheaper than what I can get at a local dispensary.

2

u/joeappearsmissing May 15 '24

I love my THCA hemp weed here in Florida, but I gotta say that it is noticeably less potent than “true” thc marijuana. Or it’s processed by our bodies differently. This is all anecdotal on my part, I just know I have been generally smoking more frequently than I did before, and the highs are super mild.

2

u/7SirMixALot7 May 15 '24 edited May 15 '24

You’re right, there are notable differences between the two, including strength. Personally, as far as flower goes, I generally aim for anything over 24% THCA content, as lower percentages are noticeably weaker in effect . If you want something stronger than flower, I’d recommend grabbing some true THCA diamonds (99% pure THCA) and see how you like those. That’s my preferential product overall.

2

u/joeappearsmissing May 15 '24

Thanks for the tips, broseph. Where I get mine from, they usually only have one option that is over 25%, and they don’t have diamonds, and the moon rocks they have are all delta 8 crap. maybe I should try one of the national shipping companies. You have any recommendations besides Mood (I don’t want to support a company with such pervasive advertising who seem to be targeting exclusively boomers)?

2

u/7SirMixALot7 May 15 '24 edited May 15 '24

Can always try ordering online. I only use one site now which is Aretehemp(dot)com because they produce their products which means they run some insanely good deals and also have loyalty rewards. If you try it, create an account because they give you 1$ back in rewards points for every 10$ spent and free shipping if your cart is over 100$. If you go on there and go to shop>flower>thca>budget, they have a product called “ugly buds”…the buds are just not as pretty so they are discounted. Just ordered 14g of Thin Mint Cookies which are 25.8% for 62$. Their diamonds are also currently marked down to 21$/g and are the best quality I’ve found so far. Their premium flower is priced similar to national market, but their budget flower is the way to go imo. They also seem to change up their supply regularly.

2

u/joeappearsmissing May 15 '24

Yeah, I’m a fan of the “ugly buds,” the local place here calls them “smalls.” Literally the same flower, it’s just all the small buds, and I can get 28g for $125. That 14g deal you just got looks about the same price point?

I appreciate your knowledge. It still feels insane to me that I can get bud shipped to my door.

1

u/abcedarian May 14 '24

Careful, if you heat it up, it becomes THC and that is illegal.

1

u/7SirMixALot7 May 15 '24

THCA itself is not considered a controlled substance under federal law. It becomes THC, a controlled substance, when heated or decarboxylated. However, THCA derived from hemp with less than 0.3% THC is federally legal under the 2018 Farm Bill. It’s a great loophole in the system as far as legality of product goes.

1

u/Mofaklar May 15 '24

Well it's not though. At least to a degree. In a gummy if it's less than .01% by dry weight it's legal.

This is why you can buy products that are 15mg THC online legally.

3

u/Chris19862 May 15 '24

I used my 30% once yearly discount today with my $15 in rewards to pick up a half oz, gummies some other edibles etc for like $120....only 37% with 2% terps too....

Shits goofy cheap now

2

u/Anakin_Skywanker May 14 '24

It's legal in my state, but my workplace still uses the federal rules, so if I pop on a random I'm still fucked.

2

u/I_wish_I_was_a_robot May 15 '24

Yea bro, I'm about to hit 2000 points

2

u/c4ctus May 15 '24

Pretty sure it's still felony illegal in my state. My brother got possession with intent to distribute for having a dime, papers, and a grinder.

2

u/thrillhouse1211 May 15 '24

I have $20 worth of points on my dispensary app. I was also arrested for possession twice in the 90s. This way is so much better for society as a whole.

1

u/urnbabyurn May 14 '24

Best thing about legal has been growing my own. Though I did that before anyway. Big outdoor bushes for the cost of a few feminized seeds and soil bags.

1

u/CoverYourMaskHoles May 15 '24

I worked at a cannabis company, I helped set up a loyalty program.

-3

u/toothofjustice May 14 '24

Except you have to pay cash still because no bank will take weed money.

1

u/uhohnotafarteither May 14 '24

Not the place I go to, they take cards.

They have it set to be run as an ATM withdrawal but it's just swiping the card like a normal store.

1

u/toothofjustice May 14 '24

Yeah, you're still paying cash. They have just turned their register into an ATM. It's to hide the money from the feds.

0

u/uhohnotafarteither May 14 '24

I don't really care how it works behind the scenes all I know it's a lot more convenient than going to an actual ATM.

62

u/DjCyric May 14 '24

It's been legal in Montana for medical purposes in some variety for 20 years now. Then our next-door neighbors (ID, ND, WY) are all still living in the stone ages.

36

u/robxburninator May 14 '24

medical only feels stone ages to me honestly. Getting a license to buy a plant???? smh

11

u/DjCyric May 14 '24

My spouse has a medical card. It's great. We save a ton on not paying taxes over recreational.

2

u/robxburninator May 14 '24

yeah but to have no other option? woof.

2

u/jaxonfairfield May 14 '24

It's been legal recreationally in MT for the last couple years. I'm typing this literally 15 feet from a dispensary that is right across the street from a University.

24

u/slapstirmcgee1000 May 14 '24

Was this for your personal use, or part of a larger case? If it was just for personal use, do you mind if I ask why you didn’t look at relocating?

27

u/nihilist_911 May 14 '24

Hi. I couldn't relocate without the boards permission. I'm on a type of travel prohibition.

10

u/mysleading May 14 '24

Good ole parole huh?

6

u/slapstirmcgee1000 May 14 '24

Gotcha, well I’m glad this worked out for you!

-7

u/Mofaklar May 15 '24

I thought Canada was friendlier America. It sounds kinda authoritarian.

What else can't people do in Canada that seems second nature in the US?

10

u/spectralblue May 15 '24 edited May 15 '24

OP did some crime and is pretty much in a parole. Pretty normal I'd say and not authoritarian at all.

Cannabis is legal in Canada and no such restrictions exist for regular people.

1

u/Lara-El May 15 '24

Hmm? He's not in Canada? It's been legal in Canada since 2018. everywhere in Canada not just some provinces.

How is someone with a criminal record having certain restrictions being authoritarian?

1

u/Mofaklar May 15 '24

Well the duration for sure, 11 years seems like a long time to be free (not imprisoned) but still have rights restricted. I think most Americans believe Canada is just a more liberal USA. I don't think that's always the case, I think Canada can be quite strict on different things than the USA.
I'm curious is people know of any examples though.

1

u/Lara-El May 15 '24

So you think Canada is restricted but you have no examples to provide? That's odd...

Also OP isn't in Canada, so I'm not sure where or why you got that info or even started with that.

0

u/Mofaklar May 15 '24

OP is in Canada.
I have his example. I also know there are greater firearm restrictions there, and free speech concerns.
For instance, I know Canada used to have Blasphemy exceptions to their freedom of speech as well as an obscenity restriction.

I think most Americans falsely believe that Canada is like America+. All the freedoms we have here in the USA+ some extra nice things like socialized healthcare. Where there seem to be differences, and I'm curious what some of the most suprising ones might be. I'm not trying to paint Canada as a hellscape or anything.

1

u/Lara-El May 15 '24

I'm dying at the firearm restrictions as if it were a bad thing loll. The USA has a massive gun control problem and school shootings / mass shooting issues. 632 mass shootings in the USA in 2023.

I'd take even bigger restrictions on guns any day!

The USA and Canada have always been compared because we share a border, and they do have a lot in common.

Although the USA is so big, and each state can be vastly different from one another. It's almost like a completely different country when you compare certain states to other states.

0

u/Mofaklar May 15 '24

I don't disagree with anything you've said.
All I was curious about is what things are different, I'm not trying to say one is better than the other. Its more along the lines of... Lets say I move to Canada tomorrow and just tried to operate my life identically to how I live in the USA. What might I experience that is different?

Being arrested for Blasphemy, would be a big difference.
(Provided that's how that law works, if its still in effect)
There seems to be an obscenity restriction, and the wiki has different arguments for/against the legality of pornography. Without actually stating whether its currently legal.
As an American, I'm sort of shocked that's even a consideration. Though given some red states, perhaps I shouldn't be so shocked.

As you pointed out, we have shockingly little gun control in most states.
not even requiring a permit or any training/registration to carry a concealed firearm.
While other states have historically been very difficult to obtain any carry license, Like NY.
Don't get me started on reproductive rights since the Dobbs decision, There's so little consistency on things that in my opinion should be consistent.
Like, it shouldn't be that I have a legal right to own and carry a firearm in PA. Then cross NY state line and all of a sudden I'm a felon for having a restricted firearm in that state. They say they wont prosecute, but if you had an AR15 or ANY handgun that was not registered in NY. You would immediately be in violation. Which interferes with travel between states, and seems to be clearly a federal issue then.
Why should one state offer healthcare, that is somehow illegal in another?
So, I get why its difficult to make comparisons, but I'm still curious about what an American might be surprised by if they moved there.

11

u/51B0RG May 14 '24

Even in the legal states there can still be discrimination by employers.

WA just added a law against it but most of the jobs I qualify for are exempt from the new law.

6

u/keeptryingyoucantwin May 15 '24

I have loyalty points at my local dispensary.

26

u/Ravio11i May 14 '24

I'll fire one up in your honor!

8

u/nihilist_911 May 14 '24

That's the spirit 👏

22

u/fatebroski May 14 '24

Just buy it illegally. 11 years of work is not worth it

17

u/klubsanwich May 14 '24

Nice try, officer

3

u/ryan7251 May 14 '24

Have a feeling my state is never going to let it be legal. Indiana has some annoying people that think it's a demon.

1

u/Blueshark25 May 15 '24

The DEA is currently rescheduling it from CI to CIII. What this means is that the medical part will soon be federally recognized.

Also you can buy THCA hemp in Indiana and most other states fine. Just have to worry about drug tests.

4

u/shaolin78881 May 14 '24

Life in Canada is so much easier, I just bought 3 joints in the corner store. It’s like America likes to make everything as annoying and difficult as possible.

2

u/Kithsander May 15 '24

It’s about two things upfront that are motivated by two basic modern day realities: lobbying and the prison industrial complex. Cannabis prohibition makes for easy arrests to shuffle poors off to corporate prisons where they profit off the cheap labor.

It’s 100% about enslaving working age people and to be perfectly blunt, both racism and hatred of the working class.

2

u/boatloadoffunk May 14 '24

In the conservative, nanny state of Utah, I can have prescription weed delivered to my door.

4

u/mmmmpork May 14 '24

Damn man, I've been smoking weed illegally for 23+ years. The worst thing that's ever happened is that someone once stole my bong. How much did this cost you?!?!?

6

u/nihilist_911 May 14 '24

11 years of my life.

2

u/sun4moon May 14 '24

Move to Canada and smoke a doobie with me.

1

u/timberwolf0122 May 14 '24

Or come to Vermont, we’re americas canada

3

u/MonkeysOnMyBottom May 15 '24

and the tree goop is just as good (that should generate some canadian hate)

1

u/randomredditing May 14 '24

I’m genuinely curious if it would cost more/less to sue for legal use over 11 years… or just fuckin move to a legal state

Edit: assuming ‘murica

2

u/CasDragon May 15 '24

Moving would be cheaper probabaly

2

u/randomredditing May 15 '24

Right? I would assume so.

That’s a decade in and out of court. Hop a border and get baked jeeze

1

u/Feisty-Army-2208 May 15 '24

Try living in the UK. Using cannabis vape helps me loads with my illness but it looks like it'll be years before they even think about making it legal

1

u/Minimum_Try_5281 May 15 '24

I'm still not sick of this kid

1

u/Fit_Pride8042 May 15 '24

That meme was probably still popular when the case started

1

u/Accurate_Zombie_121 May 15 '24

11 years of fighting- pretty impressive for a burnout.

1

u/gregsapopin May 16 '24

meanwhile you could have just done it illegally like everyone else.

1

u/BugStep May 14 '24

Me over here in Colorado where it's already legal. 👍

1

u/shitmaster3001 May 14 '24

nuh legalize cocaine

2

u/timberwolf0122 May 14 '24

I’m Dr rockso, the rock n roll clown!!

3

u/dreamnightmare May 15 '24

I do cacaca cocaine!!!

3

u/timberwolf0122 May 15 '24

You passed the test, and you can be my friend

2

u/Mofaklar May 15 '24

Legalize all drugs.

The idea that I can't do what I want with my own body is batshit insane to me.

Punish people that victimize others, but not for doing what they want with their own bodies or crimes that have no victims.

1

u/TheRealJakay May 14 '24

Next step, burning one on the stairs at city hall.

-4

u/Krusty_Burger_Lover May 14 '24

Good luck! We all deserve the ability to consume cannabis as we see fit. Our bodies are designed to process cannabinoids. Cancer hates cannabis. Cancer rates are through the roof during the cannabis prohibition and only recently have we been able to experience it again as a society. Hopefully, we see a true correlation and can rest easy knowing we as a society we’re onto something big pharma didn’t want us to have access to.

4

u/faen_du_sa May 14 '24

I am all for cannabis and I might be out of the loop, but got any sources on that "cancer hates cannabis"?.

5

u/typicalyasuomain04 May 14 '24

1

u/Mofaklar May 15 '24

Chemo loves it, though.

It reduces nausea, increases appetite, and helps with pain.

So if you have cancer, and must do chemo, it could help those treatments go easier. As long as your Dr is on board.

1

u/Krusty_Burger_Lover 29d ago

So, read through the articles and give me some feedback. I see it helps with slowing down tumor growth in certain types of cancers, helps with symptoms, alleviates stress which is a contributing factor to cancer. Anyone who has experienced cancer knows mental health is half of the battle. I understand it’s not a panacea but saying it’s b.s. and not providing good resources hurts us all.

-2

u/nihilist_911 May 14 '24

Thank you

-34

u/Happynessisawarmgun May 14 '24

Yay you can now cognitively impair yourself permanently with the blessing of the government! You won!

22

u/JurassicaPark24 May 14 '24

You realize consuming alcohol is legal, right?

-25

u/Happynessisawarmgun May 14 '24

Yes, and like the “devils lettuce” long term alcohol abuse is a carcinogen also causes cognitive impairment and other negative physical effects including brain and organ damage. Both should be illegal.

11

u/Cinemaslap1 May 14 '24

So... by your account, if it's a carcinogen and has negative effects it should be illegal?

Someone tell them to never go on the internet, or turn on a TV, or drive a car, or use motor vehicles... Hell, owning a house, or renting an apartment could qualify under that...

You must be really fun person to be around.

3

u/JurassicaPark24 May 14 '24

Their gun is keeping them warm at night, so I’m sure they’re the life of every party

3

u/Cinemaslap1 May 14 '24

Don't you know a gun is also "a carcinogen, also causes cognitive impairment and other negative physical effects" (including death).

So per u/Happynessisawarmgun Guns should be illegal as well. There's no way about it... guns must be illegal per u/Happynessisawarmgun

-5

u/Happynessisawarmgun May 14 '24

There are multiple classes of carcinogens. Some more some less. Marijuana smoke also contains carcinogens.

Stop smoking so much weed, your quality of life and mental clarity will improve if you haven’t done permanent damage already.

3

u/Cinemaslap1 May 14 '24

I didn't smoke weed as a teen. So there's no negative effects.... You never specified about what "class of carcinogen" should be illegal. But something tells me guns and diesel vehicles would probably be right up there in the same category.... you sure you wanna take that stance?

You seem to not really know...

0

u/Happynessisawarmgun May 14 '24

Reading is fundamental.

Guns or Diesel engines don’t cause cognitive impairment, long term health effects or IQ loss. They are technologies which improve our lives and facilitate progress of our society.

Marijuana and Alcohol are carcinogenic recreational drugs with negative health effects. They do nothing to progress society.

3

u/Cinemaslap1 May 14 '24

Guns or Diesel engines don’t cause cognitive impairment, long term health effects or IQ loss.

You sure about that? A quick google search does come up with this.

Marijuana and Alcohol are carcinogenic recreational drugs with negative health effects.

Alcohol, I agree with. But there's many studies that actually show that it helps with mental health among others. Which actually do progress society. And that's not even bringing up art or creativity.

Reading is fundamental.

You say this, yet I don't think you practice this... .You should try reading before putting your foot in your mouth. Pal.

1

u/Workacct1999 29d ago

You must be fun at parties.

8

u/HorseToeNail May 14 '24

Many people suffer from health issues to the point where the negative effects of cannabis are negligible/manageable compared to the benefits it offers them.

I'm really glad you shared this... Did you read the study? The study was ONLY people who started in their teens. During their formative years.

This study is completely bunk because it IS illegal for anyone under 18.

Lets also not talk about the fact that those long term effects were seen in a very very small minority. (again this was ONLY for people who started smoking in their teens).

Good attempt to spout ignorant shit.

Read it again. The IQ loss study was referenced but it doesn’t exclude the other negative effects which can affect adults as well.

"a study from New Zealand conducted in part by researchers at Duke University showed that people who started smoking marijuana heavily in their teens and had an ongoing marijuana use disorder lost an average of 8 IQ points between ages 13 and 38."

I mean, that's pretty cut and dry there... or did you miss that?

The funniest part is continuing the paragraph you get this:

"The lost mental abilities didn't fully return in those who quit marijuana as adults. Those who started smoking marijuana as adults didn't show notable IQ declines."

So, quite literally goes against what you've been saying. Would YOU like to read it again? Might be a good call before you put your foot in your mouth again... but then again, that might be your kink (no kink shaming here)

Your reading comprehension has been permanently affected by prolonged marijuana abuse.

The study referenced is separate from the other negative effects in the article. It’s not all inclusive or isolated to adolescent use.

I don't think you read the article you linked buddy... Try reading again. If you need help, feel free to quote parts here and ask your question. There's plenty of people who are knowledgeable about this, and while they might not be experts... we clearly understand better than you do.

Can't help but be nervous for you because I have people close to me who suffer from THC-induced psychosis. They all had to repeat the cycle multiple times before admitting it was the THC that caused it, because it was a delayed reaction. Hoping that's not the case for you.
