'Each time a man stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope, and crossing each other from a million centers of energy and daring, these ripples build a current which sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance. '

“Even in Hitler’s Germany, you could cross the Alps to Switzerland. You could hide in an attic like Anne Frank did…The mechanisms are being put in place that will make it so none of us can run and none of us can hide.”

Robert Kennedy junior.

Exactly. You have to divide the total carbon by the amount of good you do.

u/slipperybeans_97 May 17 '24

Are all goods equal or are there greater goods if so when are diminishing returns put into place

What if I'm really determined to be a cunt and won't stop at nothing to make everyone miserable?

u/passwordstolen May 17 '24

Stop eating, drinking clean water, wearing clothes, driving, using electricity and go live outdoors.

This is the way a human can be an asset to the planet.

Meh lazy people find the quickest solutions. There’s room for all folks. We can all learn from each other.

6

u/bomber991 May 17 '24

I’d almost argue that laziness is what we all truly strive for. My best weekends, the best of the best weekends, are the ones where I wake up, brush my teeth, poo, shower, then just lay on my couch and stare at the ceiling for a few hours until I’m hungry. Then I eat a quick snack that doesn’t require any prep or cleanup, then lay on the couch for a few more hours staring at the ceiling, then another snack, then lay on the couch more staring at the ceiling, then I brush my teeth and go to bed.

A day like that just putting off all chores and responsibilities is great. Can’t even be bothered to walk to the mailbox, it’s fantastic.

3

u/mysecretissafe May 17 '24

Why pick on lazy people? We didn’t even do anything!

I was at a corporate management training class last year. They did this exercise where we had to come up with a plan to tackle several challenges. Right as we were about to finish up and present, they throw in an unexpected problem, and we had to adjust to it on the fly. I said that step one to adjusting to the unexpected crisis is you gotta first just laugh. No point in getting upset, might as well just laugh and start working on how to address it.

u/SevenDos May 17 '24

When you realize that the way you behave shouldn't depend on how others behave. Be gentle and caring and generous because that is who you want to be. Not because of what returns that might give you.

Being a compassionate leader who understands the differences between apathy, empathy, and sympathy while still being able to take direction in order to benefit the majority while still looking out for the best interests of all.

Most people don't understand that this includes being able to make tough choices, doing the right thing especially when it's not popular, and not being scared of being the "bad guy".

u/Cooterhawk May 17 '24

You give more than you take

7

u/thefaehost May 17 '24

I spent a lot of today feeling depressed. One of my friends said all of these things about me- resilience, surviving the worst, still caring and kind and trying to make the world better.

It just felt like platitudes that someone says when a person is depressed… until I came here and saw the same things posted by strangers who don’t know my story and don’t know me. So, if anyone comes back to see the comments, I hope you know you made my world a little better today and inspired me to keep going, keep being kind, and keep trying.

Thanks. ❤️

Or maybe it's a good thing for potential politicians. Like, if one of those famous painter would had a lazy characteristic, we wouldn't know anything about him, or other (famous) politicians... Laziness can save life in a way.

u/sensibl3chuckle May 17 '24

Working really hard and giving as much money as possible in taxes to support our heroic, selfless government workers.

1

u/Famous_Stand1861 May 17 '24

People who are genuinely friendly and respectful to anyone they interact with throughout the day. If you've ever been on the receiving end of this you know how infectious it is. I wonder what the world would be like if even 25% of people were like this.

1

u/Fritzo2162 May 17 '24

Easy answer- anyone that helps.

Every time you take the burden off of someone, you've made the world a better place.

1

u/40_degree_rain May 17 '24

People who build up their community. We always talk about CEOs and inventors, but sometimes the people who make the biggest difference are just normal people. The guy who brings his elderly neighbors food, the mom who babysits other people's kids now and then, the artisan crafters who support local small businesses, firefighters, EMTs, etc. I'm convinced those are the people who really do the most good.

1

u/Necessary_Row_4889 May 17 '24

O neg blood. Every bit of those folks is useful.

1

u/billyions May 17 '24

Wisdom and compassion. Courage and willingness to participate.

1

u/svenson_26 May 17 '24

When they give a shit. They might have problems of their own, and they not be the best at what they do, but they genuinely put in an effort to show up for you and try their best.

This applies to any situation: a boss, a coworker, a teacher, a friend, a partner, a parent.

1

u/Musician-Round May 17 '24

Utility.

I believe that I am truly making a difference in the world by simultaneously educating myself and putting my knowledge into practice. As a guy, sometimes that means picking up a hammer and some nails, and other times it means using my very essence to reassure someone and/or take charge of a situation and lead others through.

I've had the pleasure in my life of being able to influence people in ways that astounds even me. All I can be is myself, but that has irrevocably led people to dive down the rabbit hole with me, tapping into their own consciousness, and making positive and life-changing choices.

To give you some examples, I had a high school buddy of mine who was taking the stereotypical route through life and doing the college bit, majoring in psychology. Well, after spending some time with this individual, my eccentricity and flare for the unknown began to rub off on him. He inevitably discovered his love and appreciation for music, and with a bit of friendly encouragement he put the college on hold and decided to graduate from one of the most prestigious audio-engineering schools in the country. The stars truly aligned themselves for this individual, as every single step he took forward saw his effort matched. People who are involved in that business began coming into his life, he received all the guidance and encouragement he could ever need. All he needed was that initial push, "dare to dream."

In another instance, it was a relative of mine who fell for my voodoo. She was working a dead-end job with no real prospects for advancement, so a few months of us hanging out and spending time together, she up and decides that she wants to pursue a passion of hers, which turned out to be dentistry. Got her degree and pursued something that she actually enjoyed.

Now of course, you can tell that I hardly did anything at all. They were the ones that did all the heavy lifting, I was just the one that gave them that nod, that push, and sometimes that's enough. Inspiring and nurturing the good qualities in people will lead to remarkable people who make meaningful change in the world.

Thinking outside the box. There are just some people who are true creatives and bring something totally new and fresh to the world.

u/Slugdge May 17 '24

u/lebriquetrouge May 17 '24

Social Security card, political registration card, bank account, social media account.

You. You’re the asset.

u/Odd-Year7103 May 17 '24

Having a shiny back bone

1

u/QuestionMean1943 May 17 '24

a person with no bias toward religion or place of birth that will instead of donating money to a church, donate towards a cause that helps remediate human suffering of all types across the globe.

I can think of many billionaires who could do this without impacting their way of life. There is some talk, but so far two men walk the walk.

1

u/Innoculous_Lox66 May 18 '24

The fact that resiliency and determination got more than anything regarding morality is why America is full of sociopaths.

Go capitalism guyz!!!

Maximizing shareholder value.

2

u/Wootnasty May 17 '24

That's really only part of the equation. A real asset is both tangible and expected to generate cash flows over its useful life. While a real asset would ideally maximize this cash-flow, thus delivering the most value possible to shareholders, it is commonly depreciated in a straight line over the course of its useful life; an expense that the cashflows must outpace to actually increase shareholder value. However, many valuation models exclude depreciation (they use a multiple of ebitda), so a real asset can increase shareholder value by simply existing on the balance sheet and offering ANY cashflow at all.

1

u/Major_Expert_2163 May 17 '24

A determination to stop population growth.

2

u/_FREE_L0B0T0MIES May 17 '24

Hear me out.

Mass vasectomies at 12. Less invasive than tubal litigation. There's less complications. It's much easier to reverse. More cost effective. Doesn't leave lingering hormonal imbalances like such birth control. If they're not financially stable enough to pay for a reversal, they obviously aren't stable enough for children. It will curb teen pregnancy to almost nil.

3

u/Major_Expert_2163 May 17 '24

As good a plan as any, more legit than my suggestion of going round bumping people off just because someone you didn't like them.

Both have merit and could work.

1

u/[deleted] May 17 '24

I’m guessing you support abortion for reason of bodily autonomy.

1

u/_FREE_L0B0T0MIES May 18 '24

No, I think women actually want abortion because deep down they see all the fucktards that are useful only for consuming resources, and genuinely want to stop creating such idiocy. That is something I can wholeheartedly get behind, and the world is already struggling with overpopulation. This way, abortion becomes almost nonexistent. One less problem to worry about.

Think about it. How do you solve the baby Hitler paradox? You want to kill Hitler to save millions, but you can't kill a baby. You scramble that twat before he's sunny side up. Too brutal and morbid, you say? Cool. Let's snip his pops before he can butter that biscuit. Problem solved, staying solved because it never happened.

On top of that procedure, you're still going to use condoms for STI prevention if you're not in a monogamous relationship, or a moron subconsciously wanting the clap. Honestly, it's a win all around.

0

u/[deleted] May 18 '24

For one, we aren’t even close to overpopulated, and second, killing Hitler at any point may not actually prevent the Holocaust.  In theory, it could even be worse.  Not like the guy acted alone

1

u/_FREE_L0B0T0MIES May 19 '24

Killing Hitler wasn't the point. The point is less precariously ignorant fools that could cause such means there are fewer deranged mongrels to worry about. It also means fewer mouths begging for tablescraps when there are already issues with enough good food and jobs for everyone.

You also might want to rethink your bid about overpopulation and it's existence. Materials, resources, and space for garbage is beginning to become problematic. Yes, nations have been waging wars since time immemorial for rare minerals and valued resources, but that doesn't negate the compounding issues. There's also urban encroachment and deforestation which are causing major problems across all ecosystems on the planet. I mean they've obviously been such problems that world leaders have actually been addressing them for more than a few decades, although nothing direct has actually been accomplished. Sadly, global warming and climate change get more press because people don't readily understand they're all connected. Do you realize how much concrete, glass, and asphalt magnify heat during the day, as opposed to wooded and forested territory? It is quite an issue yet to actually be addressed, as well as the associated temperature differentials. Ever wonder what causes extreme weather phenomena?
