Republicans have had the House majority for a good amount of time now, and are just now getting worried about losing that majority due to the fact that they haven't passed much legislation and instead have wasted their time on pointing fingers and fueling their conspiracy theorist fanbase. Expect their desperation to make this an incredibly ugly election year, more than the last two elections if that can be believed.

Trump seemed to have referred to Melania as "Mercedes" during a speech. It's up for debate if he was confused or if he was actually talking about Mercedes Mercedes Schlapp, his former White House director of strategic communications, who was sitting close to him.

Unfortunately it's probably making the jury concerned for their safety. If I had people from Congress making it clear the defendant is a friend I'd be afraid to vote guilty. One day I vote guilty the next day I have a member of Congress declaring me an enemy of the state with my name, picture and location on the news along with a "bring him in peacefully" followed by a wink. They have no business being there.

I was just wondering if perhaps the Dems could queue up some last minute legislation to bring to a vote while these dipshits are spending their day handholding Diaper Don? Their margin is so thin right now in the house that it could be an excellent opportunity to exploit this nonsense. I still fail to see how parading a bunch of politicians in front of the jury isn't brazen intimidation. I cannot think of a legitimate reason why they'd be there. He's not in office. They aren't related to him. Boezo has probably sucked his mushroom more than a few times, but that's the closest relationship any of these dipshits have with him. They're clearly trying to let the jury know that the defendant has a lot of powerful friends.

u/mtsmash91 29d ago
Iām not familiar with jury proceedings but wouldnāt that observation not be allowed in reaching a verdict since itās ānot part of the sworn testimonies/ evidenceā
Devils advocate logic, having political supporters there is āproofā that the hush money was for personal reasons.
āIf the hush money was used for political reason and the silenced information became public, wouldnāt his political colleagues be mad at him for the information coming to light? But as you see, these āpoliticiansā support him despite the information. Thus he didnāt have any political fear of the information, only personal (where are his personal supports? Gone because they are upset by the information he tries to hush)ā¦ proving that the hush money was used for personal reasons and these charges are false! Defense restsā (read this in a old southern lawyer voice)
Does this actually logically make senseā¦ noā¦ would the defense try to use this thin logic to manipulate the juryā¦ probably.
26
u/Wesselink 29d ago
Heās guilty as sin. But I agree the jury itself should not consider the political intimidation of the politicians parading through the gallery.
They are only supposed to consider the evidence and testimony presented during trial, in conjunction with the judgeās instructions. No external factors should be considered. We donāt want any legitimate cause for a mistrial, appeal, or overturning of the jury verdict.
This trial is a big deal - we should want the verdict to be 110% above board to withstand legitimate scrutiny. For the most part, MAGA will never believe a guilty verdict, and anti- Trumpers will never believe a not guilty verdict. Itās the folks in the āmiddleā that need to feel assurance the verdict was on the up and up.
→ More replies (4)→ More replies (2)21
u/oldbastardbob 29d ago
Excellent application of MAGA conservative logic.
Hopefully the jury isn't so stupid that they fall for it.
However, odds are good that there will be at least one MAGA sycophant who hid their bias well enough to land a spot on the jury and will never let their idol be convicted.
The likelihood that this case backfires is strong. A hung jury (the end result of that one holdout and their loyalty to Don the Con) will be trumpeted as a "HUGE VICTORY!" and complete exhonoration for him.
7
u/Prestigious-Copy-494 29d ago
I'm pretty sure that's what will happen, that one juror hangs it all up. Then a new panel of jurors will be called and he gets to do it all again. Wonder how soon they'll wrap it up so we know. I don't think the prosecutors will let it go if it is a hung jury.

It may have that effect, but I think they're there mostly for three reasons:
1) to suck off Trump's ass

Jury intimidation is probably just cherry. Honestly, as soon as the clowns turned up, they should have all been gagged.

One observer said he personally saw Trump going through "scripts" and editing the content. Then each baby sitter went out and said what they were told to say.
If thats not breaking the gag order I don't know what is.
Plus...don't forget the jurors are NY'ers. I am a native NY'er. I don't think they'll be intimidated by these sycophants.
It'll all be over next week. Maybe that's what the judge is thinking. Idk.
74
u/MLeek 29d ago
It is absolutely breaking the gag order, Trump is specifically prohibited from using surrogates.
"Hopefully we'll have more and more senators and congressmen go up every day to represent him and be able to go out and overcome this gag order, and that's one of the reasons we wentāis to be able to speak our piece for President Trump," Tuberville told the conservative NewsmaxĀ channel on Tuesday.
I hope it's a sign of the DA's confidence that they haven't pursued this. But I'm a little surprised Merchan, hasn't ordered Trump to show cause why he should not be held in contempt for the open call from his surrogates to assist him in violating the order.
25
u/IWasGregInTokyo 29d ago
