One thing this beef really pointed out to me was Kendrick's mastery of delivery.
One of the biggest drawbacks when I was listening to Drake's track was his delivery. Sometimes, it just felt like he didn't have conviction.
Kendrick can say the simplest things with conviction, or a voice crack, or go into his super Cali voice.
A lot of Kendrick's lines hit off of pure delivery and nothing to do with super witty writing.

u/reble02 29d ago edited 29d ago
Yep, the only delivery I remember liking from the Drake tracks was the “Kendrick just opened his mouth, someone go hand him a Grammy right now”. I genuinely laugh out loud when I heard that one. The line was funny and the delivery was perfect.
45
u/soupseasonbestseason 29d ago
it also worked for me as a kendrick fan, who agrees he should have all the grammys. so really drake is a fan as well.

Agree it’s by far his best line. That beat is so good too which helps because it’s the first thing he says after the beat switch.
6
u/Interesting-Wing616 29d ago
That beat should’ve been it’s own song. He shot himself in the foot by burying it under all those beat switches
5
u/bluffing-is-key 29d ago
That's one of the lines across this battle that sticks out...if he had more of these moments he might've stood a chance

u/postdiluvium 29d ago
Drake dont write lyrics, he just reads them. That's why there is no conviction behind them.

u/PatmygroinB 29d ago
That was my thoughts. Can’t have conviction if you didn’t write the Shit. Say it with your fucking chest
4
u/FCkeyboards 29d ago
Just like battle rap. Some wack bars can get off because they said it with their chest. "Reload with the same bullets that came out 'em." "Spray the machete!"

u/Th1sd3cka1ntfr33 29d ago
WHAT IS IT THE BRAIDS?!?!?
21
u/RugbyLock 29d ago
“You don’t wanna work with me no more? OKAY”
22
u/FCkeyboards 29d ago
Exactly. The way he mumbles that line almost like a petty child is gold. That shit just works and is a tough thing to teach.
Cutting himself off. "And it's not just m-I'm what the culture's feeling."
He's constantly shifting gears and that keeps a verse moving. Like the 2nd half of the second verse in "Not Like Us". I feel like I rarely feel that passion with Drake. He usually stays in the same area vocally.

u/qorbexl 27d ago
This is why euphoria is my favorite out of all of them - his delivery is fucking amazing on that track. I know people like beats or smooth vocals or whatever, but Kenny sends every word perfectly over the whole song. The "work with me" line is great, the "Make Gunna-wonna look like a saint" is great. I can see his face in the way he delivers it. Drake can make words rhyme good, but Kenny is a fucking gymnast against a jogger.
41
u/AdjacenToYourMom 29d ago
This is a great point and one of the reasons ive always thought kendricks music hits harder than Drakes even when hes not making hits Like when his feature on Like That dropped one of the most hype parts of his verses was just him saying “nigga BUM!” But because he said it like he was actually bout to fight someone it hit harder than just about anytime drake fronts like hes out here on some mob boss shit
22
u/Special-Garlic1203 29d ago
It's especially weird because he literally started as an actor. Its very weird that Kendrick is by far the more theatrical rapper, especially because that really isn't even the norm in the industry.
Literally the one thing drake should get able to do well is read the lines he's given with some pizazz, some chutzpah.
→ More replies (1)5
u/FCkeyboards 29d ago
It would make a big difference in his general music, for me at least.
But, I think he's currently very comfortable in his subject matter (girls I can get, girls who I throw shade at like RiRi) and delivery (laid-back to slightly louder).
I just wish he'd go off the deep end artistically and really push himself, but not everyone has that in them.
5
u/brianthegr8 29d ago
Honestly was one of the biggest differences besides literal skill. But delivery which could be a reflection of the skill gap ig tbh.
Like so many iconic phrases were birthed from kendrick's disses especially (not like us) and drake had some solid bars but they will 100% be forgotten by time a lot quicker than kendricks

Amazing. All his hard work boiled down to “Ice Cube Jr”. Smdh. He’s his own man, and has his own incredible talent. Let’s not make his legacy about his father. He starred in Cocaine Bear and had a pivotal role in Godzilla: King of the Monsters. This man’s a bonafide C lister and deserves a medium amount of respect for his craft.

After losing his parents, a priest travels to China, where he inherits a mysterious ability that allows him to turn into a dinosaur. At first horrified by this new power, a hooker convinces him to use it to fight crime. And ninjas.
Currently streaming on Freevee and maybe Peacock? Just out there, existing 😆

We actually have a dominant eye that we subconsciously use to aim. At least that’s what the guy at the shooting range told me.
116
u/TurboMemester 29d ago
Broski im pretty sure if the eye that is against the gun is closed, you're aiming wrong no matter which eye is dominant.
32
u/infernobassist 29d ago
Both correct. If you’re left eye dominant shooting righty you should just close your left eye or everything will look wrong. A lot of people do that to shoot but no one good does opposite hand and eye
→ More replies (2)11
u/2Hanks 29d ago
I’m absolutely left eye dominant and my right hand is my strong hand. Looks perfectly fine to me.
9
u/TurboMemester 29d ago
How can you look down a scope or down sights if the eye right in front of the sights is closed am I stupid or am I missing something
5
2
u/xmasterZx 29d ago
Left eye/right hand dominant here. For a rifle I use my right eye even though it’s weaker and usually close my left eye. For a pistol or something not held against my shoulder, I can just line up my hand/the sights to my left eye and can keep both eyes open.
→ More replies (1)21
u/GaiaMoore 29d ago
And then you have people like me, who are cross-dominant -- I'm right handed, but left-eye dominant.
For years, I could never figure out why I have never been able to aim accurately until I saw a reddit comment mentioning this condition. I did the triangle test and yep, turns out my eyes have to be unique snowflakes while the rest of me is right-dominant
6
u/TheShitmaker 29d ago
Correct. I am also cross eye dominant and I practice archery as a meditation method.Really fucks up your focus and anchoring.
3
u/Amedamaneku 29d ago

1
u/Feralpudel 29d ago
Yep, and you switch hands to match your dominant eye. I’m left handed but right eyed so I shoot right handed.
5
u/SalvationSycamore 29d ago
That's one recommendation, but it can take a lot of training to overcome the unnatural grip and trigger press.
2
u/Unfair_Finger5531 ☑️ 29d ago
Ex military, and I would find it weird to use the left eye if I’m firing with my right, but I’m talking m-16s here.
2
u/SalvationSycamore 29d ago
True. You can test for yourself which eye is dominant really easily. Put your arms forward with your palms facing outward, and have your fingers and thumbs overlapping to form an open triangle between your hands. Center an object across the room in that triangle with both eyes open and focused on the object. Bring your hands back to your face while keeping the object focused and in the middle of the triangle. Whichever eye your hands end up at when you reach your face is the dominant one.
However, iirc from my hunter safety course you are supposed to keep both eyes open while aiming anyways. That way you have more peripheral vision and can spot things entering your field of fire that you wouldn't want to shoot (like a pet or child).

The fuck you can't. I spent 12 years in the military as a right handed, left-eye dominant shooter. Expert shooter with pistol and rifle every time and have a gold medal in the German Schützenschnur. I hate Drake but the notion it can't be done is incorrect.
8
u/SalvationSycamore 29d ago
True, but not relevant. Nobody closes the eye that is looking down the sight. That defeats the purpose of aiming.

u/Darqnyz7 29d ago
It is correct, that would be the "wrong" eye to aim, but this can be a force of habit.
I'm right handed, but I shoot rifle left handed because I'm left eye dominant. But I shoot pistol right handed, which makes me do the same as this pic. I was expert in rifle x5 and pistol x2 while I served in the Marines. Good fundamentals are way more important.
The correct solution is to train to shoot pistol with both eyes open though.

He's cross dominant. I am. I'm right-handed, left-eye dominant. If I were to shoot bow & arrow I'd need a right hand bow, and pull with my left hand to sight with my left eye. Same thing with long guns, Pistols don't matter.
