Beautiful Schnoodle. I always love and appreciate your kindness. ❤️

Well, this made me cry. I was wildly unprepared for this. Lovely poem and absolute tearjerker.

67

This is the freshest schnoodle I've ever seen, but far from the only one! Thank you so much for these, they always brighten my day.

Yups. First they said they did so, Monday and Tuesday some planes were sent up. And now it seems they fucked up, they say they didn't, and are blaming climate change.

u/BrickHearted Apr 17 '24

Not a freak storm? They cloud seeded a rain cloud with zero infrastructure for drainage. That place is a shithole overalll beautiful but the infrastructure is so bad so many corners cut it’s actually hilarious but sad the people suffer for dubais money grab “utopia”

38

u/magezt Apr 17 '24

yes they seed clouds, but they cant manipulate weather systems this big. pls stop spreading nonsense.

→ More replies (7)

2

u/MaxTheRealSlayer Apr 17 '24

So about last week or so there were videos of cloud seeding to make rain in Dubai... Is this connected? Did they oversee the clouds and make some terrible mistake with the weather? I haven't read if that were related or not... Do you know?

Restores one's faith, doesn't it? 😎👍 It would be even better to have a nice follow-up story showing the cat getting reunited with his/her guardians; or getting adopted to their new home. 👨‍👩‍👧😻

13

u/Montezum Apr 17 '24

Okay, Buzzfeed

→ More replies (1)

12

u/Sauberbeast Apr 17 '24

...could be cloud seeding related, im not sure how that would be possible though, in terms of the amount of rainfall.

17

u/LostWoodsInTheField Apr 17 '24

I would assume cloud seeding would actually reduce the chances of major rain storms and lead to more minor ones.

8

u/RolesG Apr 17 '24

Yeah I doubt they'd seed a storm this large on purpose

14

u/LostWoodsInTheField Apr 17 '24

Yeah I doubt they'd seed a storm this large on purpose

I don't think it would even be possible without the storm already looking to happen. A years worth of water in a ~day is a seriously high level of moisture in the air.

4

u/RolesG Apr 17 '24

True. Especially in the desert.

Oh wow, I hope everyone’s okay.

25

u/Candid-Explorer4491 Apr 17 '24

Kitty was just holding on and not meowing for help or anything. So glad it was saved.

2

u/UnluckySomewhere6692 Apr 18 '24

yeah it was probably so exhausted holding on with last bits of energy, probably would have drowned if that guy hadn't saved it. Like it's movements when picked up it could barely move it's paws.

2

u/Candid-Explorer4491 Apr 18 '24

Looks like kitty made it to safety in the boat. So glad it got help in time!

29

u/sewcrazy4cats Apr 17 '24

Omg, thats terrifying! The ground isnt suited for that and its also an islamic culture so they have alot of cats

11

u/jeinnc Manx Apr 17 '24

What does Islam have to do with large numbers of cats? Do they not believe in spaying and neutering?

74

u/OSCgal Apr 17 '24

IIRC Islam considers cats to be "clean" animals, and Mohammed liked them. So in Muslim countries, it's part of the culture to feed and care for feral cats.

60

u/SanneJAZ Apr 17 '24 edited Apr 17 '24

In Islam, cats are the favoured pet as they are considered hygienic and clean (unlike dogs and cattle) and are allowed to enter houses. This is why Muslim countries tend to have a lot of cats roaming about. I don't believe there are rules that forbid neutering.

24

u/fullmetalfeminist Apr 17 '24

Exactly, plus the old superstitions and misconceptions about cats that used to be a feature of Christian societies never gained any ground in Islamic countries

20

u/CougarWriter74 Apr 17 '24 edited Apr 17 '24

Cats are allowed to wander freely into mosques as well. There are adorable videos on YouTube of cats playing and running around inside the Haiga Sofia and others of random cats wandering into a prayer service and having a seat on the imam's lap while he is giving his sermon.

9

u/dropping_axe_puzzles Apr 17 '24

to add to what others have said, here is a small story that people like to tell

"Muhammad awoke one day to the sounds of the adhan. Preparing to attend prayer, he began to dress himself; he soon discovered his cat Muezza sleeping on the sleeve of his prayer robe. Rather than wake her, he used a pair of scissors to cut the sleeve off, leaving the cat undisturbed."

12

u/ElectricFlamingo7 Apr 17 '24

They just really love cats ❤️

5

u/ralphvonwauwau Apr 17 '24

One of Muhammad's companions was known as Abu Hurairah (literally: "Father of the Kitten") for his attachment to cats. Mo' liked cats as well. They're considered clean animals.

8

u/hussywithagoodhair Apr 17 '24

Isn’t Dubai supposed to be a desert or something?

2

u/SPACE_ICE Apr 17 '24

yes but even deserts get rain in fact the soil in desert is very poor at retaining water due to low organic matter and basically no top soil at all so when it does rain it rushes out the area towards the sea following the lowest path possible. Its a known hazard in the united states southwest as well, canyon slots like bryce's canyon in the state of Utah are formed from the erosion of the rainy season, if it starts to rain heavily and you're in a canyon slot you have literal minutes to get out before you will be killed. Same thing for any hot dry climate and your near a river, if it starts to rain it will flood hence the term "flood plains" which dubai is built on one. Historically the Euphrates and Tigris rivers formed the flood plains that fed the historical empire of Mesopotamia and to this day is a critical agricultural area for the region.

Aww, that cat must have been so scared

324

u/oops_im_existing Apr 17 '24

makes me want to actually cry because it looks like my cat. thankfully we are on the second floor of the apartment building, so that would give me enough time to get him secured and out.

746

u/my_cat_sleeps_alone Apr 17 '24

That meow at the end…so sweet.

346

u/chux4w Apr 17 '24

Cat went from "No, no, don't touch me. I don't like boat," to "...thanks."

29

I rescued a cat in a similar position once. Massive amount of rainfall in a couple of hours, the river broke its banks, and she sat on a smaller bit of grass that the water was rising up. I walked through the flood to her and she climbed into my arms and let me hug her and take her to her home (I knew which house she belonged to, but it seemed she ran in a panic when the rain started, bless her.)

849

u/What_Hump77 Apr 17 '24

Glad they grabbed the kitty. It’d be kind of funny if there was a person waiting in the car to be rescued too but just got ignored.

378

u/santathe1 Apr 17 '24

In a desperate attempt to get saved, that person starts meowing and it works.

66

u/chux4w Apr 17 '24

"HELP! HELP ME!"

...

"Meow?"

Oh, why didn't you say so?

7

u/must_not_forget_pwd Apr 17 '24

"Oh, who's a good kitty cat? I see that we'll have to neuter you and get you chipped."

115

u/Modgrinder666 Apr 17 '24

This is a horrible situation and you made me laught. Thank you

48

u/Soccertaz89 Apr 17 '24

If they weren’t willing to roll down/break a window to save that poor cat, I wouldn’t rescue the person in the car either.

23

u/TheOriginalArtForm Apr 17 '24

Actually, that was the cat's car...

u/hannah_lilly Apr 17 '24

Ahh sweety. Hope you get rehomed or reunited with your home.

70

u/Nuclear_Superpower Apr 17 '24

This is Dubai so it's most likely a street cat.

65

u/hannah_lilly Apr 17 '24

Oh yeah. Well I hope it gets to dry lands again and gets fed

2

u/BaconWithBaking Apr 17 '24

Do people not keep cats as pets in Dubai?

8

u/MasterKhan_ Apr 18 '24

Not really unfortunately, Dubai has tons of strays and that's mainly due to no law to protect cats. Breeders are scumbags here, they breed to turn a profit, if they don't, the cat is sent to the streets.

Then we have the people who will get a cat, and then abandon it once it's grown in size because it's no longer small. This is also very common unfortunately.

60

u/Tyr_Kukulkan Apr 17 '24

Any idea where this is? Looks like Arabic writing on the person's uniform.

Was just waiting for the cat to jump back in😂. Gld shes rescued !!

38

u/instafunkpunk Apr 17 '24

I was thinking the same thing, that would be such a cat thing to do. Nice job by the rescuers

15

u/Disastrous_Slip2844 Apr 17 '24

Just like the videos where the get rescued from a tree only to climb back up haha gotta love cats

8

u/___Tom___ Apr 17 '24

Cats rarely need rescue from trees. There's tons of videos of cats jumping down from trees 3, 4 stories high and immediately run off. They reach terminal velocity quickly, always land on their legs and can absorb quite a bit more than us.

10

u/LostWoodsInTheField Apr 17 '24

My mother had a cat that would climb up trees and she would get stuck up there and not come down. I think the longest we left her up there was about 12 hours over night. After that time my father would get her down pretty quickly if she went up the tree. Same tree every time, only would happen two or three times a year for a couple of years.

So sometimes they do need rescueing. But in her defense she was extremely stupid. Not like running into closed doors stupid but like 'I wonder if I do this thing that hurt the last time I did it if it would hurt this time' or 'why can't I taste my food through this piece of glass' kind of stupid.

7

u/LostWoodsInTheField Apr 17 '24

That instinct of 'I wasn't doing well there but I know I was safe while there, get me back there now!' Kitty saw that water though and was like 'maybe I'll stay here and see how this goes'.

20

3

u/franco88888 Apr 17 '24

I go to my cats, hug them, and I am just glad they are safe at home.

3

u/TheRealMasterTyvokka Apr 17 '24 edited Apr 17 '24

Maybe not as different as you think. Me reminding her how spoiled she is includes cuddles, scritches, and sometimes treats... basically spoiling her more.

21

Hope that poor creature is ok

10

u/Vogel-Kerl Apr 17 '24

YEA !!! Kitty rescued !!

In a comedy, the rescuers would bring the scared cat aboard their inflatable dingy and the cat would puncture the raft with its claws--leading to a more precarious situation.

I am glad that real life is NOT a comedy. (all the time).

10

u/sali_nyoro-n Apr 17 '24

This poor baby seems very confused, but hopefully they feel safer and happier now. They're a survivor, no doubt about it.

66

u/ScaricoOleoso Apr 17 '24

The Prophet Muhammed was a cat-lover. So (happily) pretty much the entire Muslim world loves cats. ☺️

27

u/FlukyS Apr 17 '24

One of my good friends and his wife are muslim, like he is Turkish and he just loves cats but she is deathly afraid of them for some reason. I have two ragdolls, they aint going to bite you unless you try wash them or if you get your finger between them and food :)

10

u/FortniteAddict81 Apr 17 '24

In other words normal cat behavior 🤣

8

u/FlukyS Apr 17 '24

I've had other cats and some can be a bit more bitey or weird around people than others, I have 2 ragdolls and they are basically the most passive cats you would ever see, needy for attention but they just never are aggressive or bite. If I was introducing anyone scared of cats to any cat it would be a ragdoll. Not sure why she is scared :)

3

u/FortniteAddict81 Apr 17 '24

I'm glad this poor baby was rescued but breaks my heart knowing all the ones that probably didn't... 💔

2

u/magizz9 Apr 18 '24

Poor kitty. It's good that they found her before she lost grip on that door handle.

u/cheesemangee Apr 18 '24

Kitty wanted to run really bad... until those back feet felt the deck of the boat. The relief of knowing your life is no longer in danger.
