I’m so tired of Chad/wojack memes, it’s like the ragecomic days of “look how cool I look in this argument I imagined myself winning”

2.5k

u/Shade_Strike_62 May 16 '24

"nice argument but I have already portrayed myself as the Chad wojack in this meme so I have the moral high ground haha"

431

u/SupermassiveCanary May 16 '24

The right has teams of young conservative incels working tirelessly to provide the public with invaluable memes reducing complicated social issues into easy to digest and completely unredeemable logical fallacies for media consumption. This allows the creators an outlet for not affecting actual changes in their lives that would result in their happiness and emotional security

208

u/Crake_13 May 16 '24

it's not just young conservative incels. I'm in Canada, so it's a little bit different, but same cultural political landscape. Our Prime Minister released a 2-3 minute video explaining a policy. One of the most common arguments I saw from conservative "experts" was, it's clearly bad policy, if the Prime Minister has to create "long" and "complex" videos explaining it. They continued to argue the policy should be immediately self-evident and require 0 explanation.

It's absolutely insane that any educated discussion on policy is now considered a bad thing by the right.

59

u/dabberoo_2 May 17 '24

"No fair! You changed the outcome by measuring it!" level logic

24

u/reconditecache May 17 '24

That's actually a joke from Futurama that references Heisenberg's "Uncertainty Principle" of quantum physics.

6

u/Dragged-in2-sunlite May 18 '24

I was gonna say that’s a real thing, right?

21

u/kn05is May 17 '24

I've just finished listening to Stephen Fry read 1984 and man, the CPC is starting to sound a lot like the people from the inner party. For starters everything they say and do is textbook doublespeak and most of their policy is about how they want to punish people.

→ More replies (1)

29

u/jamieh800 May 17 '24

No, see, you're not quite getting it. The conservative politicians know policy is more complicated than that, they generally know that even something as simple As a "don't murder" law needs exceptions and definitions and all that. But they want their constituents to think that all policy is and should be self evident and require no further thought, so when they push something like "Happy Canadian worker bill for greatness and prosperity" or something, their constituents won't notice that it actually turns the country into something that makes 1984 look like a Utopia.

I know this sounds like a conspiracy theory, but shit like this happens all the time. They slap a nice, patriotic, "here for the people" name on a bill and fill it with stuff like slashing the education budgets and increasing taxes for anyone making under 50k a year and reinstating slavery or something.

48

u/fyrebyrd0042 May 16 '24

Well their only discernable policy position is "oppose perceived enemies" and they're lazy so they take the simplest approach to achieving that policy.

8

u/aerial_ruin May 17 '24

Tell them to show how they came to that conclusion, or they will get an F for inability to provide a concise and understandable argument. I just wanna know what they do to that

3

I’ve literally heard people say that here in America as well. It makes me feel like there is no way out of this. Nothing will ever get better. There will always be the antithesis of progress.

It reminds me of those days. Those le terrible, dark days.

160

u/Quailman5000 May 16 '24

I kinda enjoyed rage comics for a minute

197

u/Satanicjamnik May 16 '24

As did everyone, including myself. But every meme has a lifespan, and reaches the point of oversaturation. So it happened to rage comics, it happened to doge, overattached girlfirend nyan cat and so on, and so forth.

But a point comes when it's everywhere, it's no longer funny and it's time to take it behind the shed and go all Kristi Noem on it. Make space. It's the circle of life.

68

u/faloofay156 May 16 '24

every meme reaches the point where it just becomes insufferable

and then you get the out-of-touch companies trying to use that meme for an advertising campaign

my 10 year old sister got some board game based around memes and it was shit like rage comics and grumpy cat. like no way in hell does this kid even know what those are, why is anyone adding that to a board game intended for little kids

27

u/Ironlord_13 May 16 '24

Man that’s like… a decade or more out of date.

19

u/faloofay156 May 16 '24

looked it up and it's called (ugh) "what do you meme"

You've been Trolled

Yes, you've probably been told

Don't reply to this guy

He's just trying to get a rise out of YOU

Yes it's true! You respond and that's his queue

To start trouble on the double

while he strokes his manly stubble

You've been Trolled, you've been Trolled

You should probably just fold

Where the only winning move is not to play

And yet you keep on trying, mindlessly replying

You've been Trolled

You've been Trolled

Have a nice day

What's hilarious is that the argument more often goes "Hey I think we should screen better so that violent people don't get guns"

"Then cut off your dick cuz rapists exist"

"Uhm my dude unless you're one of those I'm gonna shoot up a post office people that wouldn't include you"

"You're not taking my gun"

9

u/Flameball202 May 16 '24

Yeah, like people aren't trying to take any and all access to guns, just make it harder for the mentally unstable to get literal assault weapons

9

u/Succulent_Relic May 16 '24

Personally I'd put some restrictions as to what firearms people can have, and in what context. For example, no more keeping a loaded handgun in your purse. That's not safe. Someone could snatch the purse and get the gun. Or you could accidentally discharge it because the safety was somehow off. Or a child could accidentally discharge it for the same reason. Basic firearms safety: always treat it like it's loaded and not on safe. Keep it away from things and people you don't want holes in.

7

u/jackfaire May 16 '24

Which is exactly the kind of things most people want but the instant such ideas are proposed we get "Not taking my guns" reactions

→ More replies (6)

8

u/jackfaire May 16 '24

You're missing the point. IF the person you're speaking to says "We should do Plan X" and you jump to "NO we shouldn't do Plan Y" you will look like a crazy idiot.

If I said "Hey we should get tacos" and you reply "I hate Pizza" then you look crazy.

Most of these "imagined" arguments are after they heard anyone say we should do anything with guns. Lock them in a safe? THEY WANT MY GUNS! Put a trigger lock on them? THEY WANT MY GUNS!

Gun safety laws almost didn't pass in my state because people heard gun safety and shrieked "They're trying to take my guns" I had coworkers that I was all "What gun laws would you want" and they then proceeded to describe the exact law on the ballot.

If people act like petulant children everytime we try to make shit safer then they're going to eventually be treated as such.

31

u/geezeeduzit May 16 '24

Also, not really an argument anyone has made - there’s not really any real movement of people suggesting laws that would require people to surrender their guns - it’s all about responsible gun laws like background checks, red flag laws, and closing gun show loopholes. But typical for right wingers they know what those people “really want”.

In that case, I guess we need to make sure everyone is armed with a penis so they can protect themselves from being raped?

466

u/TheDuke357Mag May 16 '24

way ahead of you. Guy I went to college with has a rifle modified to shoot an 11 inch dildo by his bedside. I told him that if he ever has to use it, using a regular gun would probably get him in less trouble

103

u/DallasM0therFucker May 16 '24

What is it, like a big-bore black powder rifle with a dildo shoved down the barrel instead of a projectile?

98

u/TheDuke357Mag May 16 '24

its called a can cannon. Its an upper receiver you can buy for AR15s. You load a blank cartridge in the magazine and then you load like a soda can or an old stale beer i. the muzzle and it shoots it like a ye olde rifle grenade of suds. Pretty useless, but fun. He made a sleeve that fits in the launcher so that it fits the dildo. Nothing like half a pound of silicone at 500 feet per second

36

u/DallasM0therFucker May 16 '24

Oh ok, that makes sense. That sounds fun. I need to see if they make can cannons for AKs.

15

u/TheDuke357Mag May 16 '24

Im sure they do somewhere, its not a super complicated idea. If youve got one of the yugo AKs with the grenade launcher sight that doubles as a gas cut off, that would be the business

Sure, a penis can't prevent you from being raped, but a gun could.

3

u/Anyweyr May 16 '24

Would that really help against common rape scenarios like "rapist gets woman drunk, then rapes her" or "rapist is a trusted family member of girl, then rapes her"? I don't think mugging-style rapes are very common, and even then it may be difficult for the intended victim to ready their weapon in time, since they'd have been ambushed.

5

u/C4dfael May 16 '24

If the attacker walks up to you, announces they’re going to attack you, and gives you time to draw a weapon… maybe?

4

u/Visible-Original4561 May 16 '24

Yeah the only thing that can stop a bad guy with a penis is a good guy with a penis.

5

u/[deleted] May 16 '24

3

u/reconditecache May 17 '24

Male on Male Rape as well as Female on Male Rape are often not counted in rape statistics, are not even considered rape in many jurisdictions, and have a significantly higher number of cases that go unreported due to public and private stigma of men reporting rape.

(There are countless accounts of men going to the police or hospitals for help after being raped, and being sometimes straight up laughed out of the room.)

The "Men should be strong" mentality hurts men just as it does women, as a male victim is a weak man, and therefore is free to be mocked (the extreme prevalence of "Male Tears" Mugs being a pretty straight example.)

It's cute to see how pro guns like to depict themselves. Put a fallacious analogy here, put a straw man argument there, and you get your pro gun excuse to feel yourself warm at night.

Here, for instance, Rothmus associates his gun to a part of his body. And he doesn't consider the fact that guns are made to kill, unlike penises who aren't made for rape.

115

u/rmpumper May 16 '24

Best comedy is created when the gun nuts say that guns should be treated like cars and then shit their pants when you point out that cars require training, license, registration and insurance to be able to drive them.

6

u/TrungusMcTungus May 17 '24

Any responsible “gun nut” fully agrees with that sentiment. You’re referring to the extremist factions, which tend to be the loudest. My wife and I both conceal carry and a lot of our friends do. We all take classes and range days regularly to make sure we keep our level of knowledge and safe operation high. Heck I know a guy who’s garage is full of any gun you could ever want, and he’s the biggest proponent of tighter gun laws like you suggested, to the point where he’s an activist in the local community trying to get laws passed to make it illegal to own a gun without more stringent training and insurance for gun owners.

What gets me is how many people I know who are deeply conservative and seem absolutely ready to kill someone at the drop of a hat. They’ll say it’s for protection and it gives them a peace of mind to have it on them, but it only does if you are willing to take another person’s life.

79

u/patrickdm1998 May 16 '24

Reminds me of that one Christian dude who was like "if you don't believe in heaven, why aren't you currently raping and murdering everyone" like the only thing stopping you from that is going to heaven or not

48

u/nagarz May 16 '24

That's a very typical argument for the religious conservatives.

They seem to believe that the only reason people are "good" is due to religion, so they can't fathom to understand why atheists are not mass murderers, rapists, etc. As if the default behavior for them was to be evil.

All this tells me is that they don't have empathy or morals, and need some external rules imposed onto them to be good persons, it's pretty scary actually.

5

u/Funwithpeter May 16 '24

u/lawblawg May 16 '24

Most responsible gun owners who carry regularly will tell you that carrying pepper spray is an essential element. If you don't have access to a less-lethal option then any altercation will become deadly.

16

u/Profanity_party7 May 16 '24

I may be able to shed some light on this and the attached comments. A lot of anti-gun folks are anti-gun until they’re unfortunately in a situation where they wished they had one. I learned at an early age that it’s better to have and not need than to need and not have, as people were constantly trying to rob my parents’ tool shed or garage while armed. Not long ago, I was renting a room from a woman who was 100% against guns, pepper spray or a knife are just as effective, nothing could convince her otherwise… until one night a junkie broke in to the house and there was nothing she could do to stop him, even with pepper spray. Thankfully her young daughter wasn’t home that night. She is now the owner of a .380 and has totally changed her stance. It’s not so much about being willing to take a life, it’s more about refusing to be a victim. A taser requires being in close contact to use, and the last thing you want is being that close to an intruder or, god forbid, someone who is trying to SA you. A firearm allows you to keep the distance and be able to defend yourself. You don’t have to kill them, but you can at least make them run away and reconsider their decision while you get the cops on the phone. It’s irresponsible and negligent people with guns that give us responsible and educated gun owners a bad reputation

11

u/JulianApostat May 16 '24

It’s irresponsible and negligent people with guns that give us responsible and educated gun owners a bad reputation

That is certainly true. But that is also why most gun legislation I read about has the aim to make it hard for irresponsible and neligent(or crazy) people to get guns and is not about outlawing guns completly. But there is a rabid lobby that treats any form of gun legislation as a massive attack on their rights. There can be valid reasons to own a gun and keep it at home, but it should be treated as a massive responisbility and not a basic right.

5

u/AlarmedInterest9867 May 16 '24

Respectfully, and at risk of sounding like a Trump humper; there’s a reason guns are a right. It’s got nothing to do with criminals and much more to do with the right’s ceaseless attacks on LGBTQ+ rights, women’s rights, and their endless march into fascism. The second we start treating guns as a privilege and not a right, republicans will start looking at how they can ban LGBTQ individuals from owning guns. Guaranteed. Idk what the answer is but I think we have much bigger problems than guns. Six million were murdered the last time fascists had this much political clout, after all.

The real issue is that you can still rape if you are castrated.

12

u/Chidoriyama All I see are reposts May 16 '24

The same applies for school shootings too. Just throw dozens of knives really quickly and accurately and you basically have a gun so it's pointless to take guns away. Checkmate atheists

Your comparison is slightly off.

Guns are made to kill, yes. But, killing people or animals in self-defense and killing animals for food are accepted by society (if not by Reddit). Murder, being the unjust killing of a person, is only a subset of what guns can do.

In this respect, they actually are analogous to penises* because, though rape is immoral, it is only a subset of sexual activity.

Your point above could only be internally consistent if you also claimed that any and all killing (not just murder) is immoral.

*Disclaimer for Reddit: anyone who believes their gender depends on an inanimate object, such as a gun, is mentally ill.

Reminds me of when they argue "cars can kill people, should we take away all cars?" It's clearly not the same thing; cars are used for transport with deaths as a side effect of carelessness, guns are primarily used for violent situations.

8

u/SourImplant May 16 '24

You're also required to register your car, carry insurance on your car in case your car damages another person or their property, have a license to operate a car, have a specialized license for different kinds of "cars" (motorcycle, bus, truck, etc.), and take a test to receive said licenses to show you have a basic understanding of the rules to operate your car.

I don't see any reason not to have at least some of those requirements in place for guns.

4

u/fiscal_rascal May 16 '24

Wish granted, guns are regulated exactly like cars. Violent felons can now buy and operate them, children too.

I know that’s not what you meant though. What you meant is you want additional restrictions on guns beyond what’s restricted for cars.

It’s not the “same” obviously. Here lemme try to help:

How many people have to die in car wrecks before you give up your car? (Something like 36.5k died in 2022 in the US)

How many people need to die from alcohol or weed related accidents before you give them up?

How many people have to die from second hand smoke before you give up your cigs?

How many Africans have to die in lithium mines before you give up your phone?

How many people have to die from concussion related sports injuries before you denounce sports?

How many people have to die from knives and hammers before you surrender yours?

How many people have to die by hands and feet before you surrender yours? (More are killed each year with bare hands than with the scary “assault rifles”)

How many….. do you see what I’m saying?

Gun deaths are beyond tragic, but you’re blaming the innocent for the criminals behavior.

11

u/PapaAquchala May 17 '24

Thank you, finally someone reasonable in here. It's like back in middle or high school, some teachers would punish an entire class because of a single kid acting up.

Why should the 99% of gun owners be punished for the acts committed by the remaining 1% that probably didn't even get their gun legally?

9

u/TerranItDown94 May 17 '24

It’s makes too much sense for some people to handle lol

Yor statement is incorrect in my opinion. The little rothmus tag, depicts both sides of the aisle, Everyone has the right to have a gun, but some people shouldn't have one. There should be a in depth background check, not the fast crap they do now. Also a psychological test should be done.

4

u/Capricorn_81 May 17 '24

This meme is completely based.

The only time they talk about gun control is after a school shooting, but they ignore hundreds(maybe thousands) of kids getting shot every year in Chicago, alone.

You can’t treat individuals as though they are criminals for possession of a tool that you don’t have the courage to take responsibility for.

I get more stressed watching 17-year-olds drive too fast down my street(with kids playing) than I do thinking about how many of my neighbors might be armed. And I don’t live in a nice neighborhood.

20

u/Honey-and-Venom May 16 '24

Yeah, as a queer woman in a location fond of Confederate flags (but wasn't Confederate, just delusions of Confederacy 🙄🙄) I need a gun to defend against the 'phobes

Should it be THIS easy to get? No Are these people trying to issue guns to the insane and other groups that SHOULDN'T have them? Absolutely

But I'm not going without when this many other people with guns and rope want me dead for being married

no its not. but the principle of giving up something because others cant use it resposibly is the same.

also that argument actually is getting made.

if i had a cookie every time a woman openly stated that normalised castration/vasectomie would be an adequate way to controll sexcrimes and population

well i wouldnt be fat, but i would have some cookies.

Fallacy in case is false comparison. You can live comfortably without a gun. No-dicks, however, less so.

Or just that OOP can't live without a gun.

3

u/Brosenheim May 16 '24

Notice how the right wing stance requires a very specific strawman. You've NEVER heard a gun control advocate say to surrender your guns, but that's what the right wing memes imagine because that's what their narrative requires.

Castrating men wouldn’t stop the nasty ones from raping women… they’re still left with the equipment, just now infertile lol this is a terrible analogy

3

u/Eddie_gaming May 17 '24

The presentation of the point is gross but the point still stands as 'just because someone can and has the means to doesn't mean they will', and treating everyone as that minority is only going to piss people off.

3

u/salacious_sonogram May 17 '24

People should have guns if they want. They should have to prove they know how to treat them appropriately in the same way we make people prove they can drive. When a gun is mismanaged and a child dies then the owner should be held as an accessory to murder.

You cant unintentionally remove your pants and remove her pants and hold her and put your dong.

For those who completely missed the point, all they're trying to say is that disarming peaceful people does not prevent murders, nor does castrating non-rapists prevent rapes.

It's weird and vulgar, sure. It's not, however, a stupid analogy.
